Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger Will Propose Ranked Choice Voting to State Legislature
Conservative Treehouse ^ | 12Dec | Sundance

CTH took considerable flak for reporting on the uniparty system of Georgia politics prior to the 2020 midterms. With the election in the rearview mirror, the Georgia Secretary of State is now proposing to permanently codify Democrat control of the state.

(Via Reason) […] Speaking to The New York Times last week, Raffensperger said he would petition the state legislature with three separate proposals. One would force large counties to open more locations for voting early. Another would lower the vote total needed to avoid a runoff from 50 percent to 45.

The third proposal is the most consequential, and the most interesting. Raffensperger will also state lawmakers to consider switching to a ranked choice ballot for future elections.

Actually, from the 2018 to 2022 county spreadsheet that I worked up, a couple of researchers could go sniffing around and find out in several Georgia counties if the Libertarian numbers were actually true.

Without a whole lot of effort.

Been here for 27 years. I’m a carpet bagger. I tell my friends that are born and bred down here, that I’m more southern than any of them could ever dream of being.

My rant....Most of what is transpiring in Georgia started under Nathan Deal and has gotten exponentially worse under Kemp. Kemp is not a smart man. Not on any day of the week. His first primary for Governor, the guy he ran against was even more corrupt than he is.

Over the last few years I’ve been paying very close attention to what is happening in this state.

Do you know our history self-proclaimed carpet bagger?

The reason I ask is that if you did know some history, you would know there was only a handfull of Republicans in Georgia until the decade just before the turn of the millennium.   You would know that Nathan Deal was a Democrat until 1995.   You would know the reason he switched to the Republican Party.

He and others like him were a dime a dozen as Democrats, but he and others like him knew they could bypass the Democrat selection process by calling themselves Republicans, then getting a prime spot on the ballot.   Essentially that means every Republican Politician in Georgia is a RINO and those of us who have voted for them for decades knows it.

Newt Gingrich came down here with his parents from Pennsylvania and Paul Coverdell came from Iowa by way of Missouri.   Those two made the Republican Party acceptable.

I voted against the Democrat Socialist Stacey Abrams.   I still believe that Kemp is the lessor of the two evils.   I don't foresee a Galt's Gulch to find refuge.

So you don't misunderstand, I was one of the handfull.   I voted for Richard M. Nixon in '72 and am still proud I did, considering the opposition he ran against.

Sigh, Yes he sure did!   It was his signature on the consent decree but Stacey Abrams brought the suits to begin with.   ...and then I gave a big sigh again.

Is the Georgia legislature Rat or Republican? Do they have a Rat or a Republican Governor?

Kemp is far better than Perdue who was useless. I’m guessing you voted for Abrams which is asinine but what someone who can’t get his way would do. If you live here I’d suggest you move to a state that has every representative that 100% fits your needs.. good luck with that as well.

Raffensperger is a problem but the state legislature makes the laws not him.

"With ranked choice, Walker might have won. Libertarians would have been more likely to have Walker than Warnock as second choice, so on second count Walker might have squaked over 50% with the Libertarian votes reassigned.

There is no reason to think ranked choice hurt Republicans in general. Alaska is an anomaly."

Totally false.

Liberals adore Rigged Choice Voting and will try to implement it especially in (but not limited to) as many supposedly Republican-leaning states as possible. If implemented, it will seal the deal for the loony left in Georgia and Nevada and will give Democrats their only possible chance of success in Utah (like it did in Alaska).

Read this, posted many months ago even BEFORE Alaska's so-called anomaly came true as the author of the article predicted:

Rigged Choice Voting in Alaska

It's no "anomaly", it's exactly what liberal of BOTH parties want to see -- conservative candidates completely marginalized in nearly all states and districts.

“ranked choice ballot”

License to Steal Elections. Just ask MurCOWski.

If they put that in place they will be voting in fractions of a vote and they will forever be married to computer driven election system.

Perpetual Election Fraud.

Bump, so did I. My first ballot cast for president. No regrets either.

Lowering the threshold to win outright, combined with ranked choice voting, is so obviously intended to give the uniparty establishment the ability to overwhelm an “unfavored” (read: MAGA) candidate with a bunch of Evan McMullin types and fracture their base of support as a result. Classic divide and conquer.

For each round of processing inside a computer, the last place voters get their 2nd place choices as a vote.

RCV effectively gives the last place candidate’s voters chances to vote more times than the 1st and 2nd place candidates.

Allowing *some* votes to count more than others should make RCV illegal.
