Arizona Sen. KYRSTEN SINEMA is changing her party affiliation to independent, delivering a jolt to Democrats’ narrow majority and Washington along with it.
“In a 45-minute interview, the first-term senator told POLITICO that she will not caucus with Republicans and suggested that she intends to vote the same way she has for four years in the Senate. ‘Nothing will change about my values or my behavior,’ she said.
“Provided that Sinema sticks to that vow, Democrats will still have a workable Senate majority in the next Congress, though it will not exactly be the neat and tidy 51 seats they assumed. They’re expected to also have the votes to control Senate committees. And Sinema’s move means Sen. JOE MANCHIN (D-W.Va.) — a pivotal swing vote in the 50-50 chamber the past two years — will hold onto some but not all of his outsized influence in the Democratic caucus.”
I'd hit it.
She might have been turned off by Schumer's gloating promise to shake down a bunch of companies.
Another case where she didn’t leave the Democrat Party. The Dem. Party left Kyrsten Sinema.
hes up in 2024 and his approval is in the tank back home. Governor Justice has shown interest in running against him....
When Trump was president, she voted with him 51% of the time.
The letter after the name means jack anymore.
She’s still Deep State’s.
I heard she was a carpet muncher.
Has she spoken about the stolen elections in Arizona...
(crickets)
So : 49 R’s, 48 D’s and 3 Independents. (with Sanders and King)
Yet the D’s control the chamber. Ugh.
The explanation is simple, and our political caste has been doing this for decades: She can play “conservative” enough to keep her seat (in a state that may vote Republican) without changing any real dynamic. These people gather together and plan these things; it is theater for us little people, nothing more.
Proof lies in the fact that she didn’t do this when it might have mattered (leading Dems with 49 seats).
This is why Louis XVI, Nicholas II, etc. were executed by their subjects.
Then she'll go on TV and say "I couldn't bring myself to vote for that Bill".
I guess Chuck You sniggered a bit too soon.
She’s too good looking to qualify as a democrap. Tulsi realized that as well. Both of them are lacking the evil troll-like appearance of creatures like Pelosi, Hillary, Maxine Waters.
Sinema is, at heart, a liberal Democrat that is restrained from voting her true progressive sentiments by a voting population that is not wildly progressive. She made the political calculation that Independents in Arizona are a larger registrant constituency than either Democrats or Republicans. She gets to keep her Dem constituency and can pick up Republicans who are not averse to voting for a Dem with an I next to her name on the ballot as well as the large Independent constituency here.
How does that work??
but, there was a time when the rat party had idealists, had people that loved America, wanted to keep America great....
people of principal....
It’s certainly interesting that her state supposedly just elected 2 democrats, yet she has felt the constant need to distance herself from that party.
If she still caucuses with the Dems what difference does it make?
It may be she recognizes the authoritarian/totalitarian movement in her own party, and does not want that system to triumph.
She is smart enough to understand the threat.
She has said before that the USA should reap the benefits of both capitalism and leftist regulation...
There are probably several motivations for her switch, but this may be one of them.
Couple of observations.
It is a result of the radicalism of the Democrat party, and specifically their border policies which are extreme.
And it certainly takes some polish off the media lie that the leftist Democrat party is such an obvious moral choice that everyone is flocking to it.
