That famine is going to impact us, too. The agricultural markets are Global now. So failure of supply in one quarter sends shock waves around the entire world.
In the wake of Canada’s production difficulties in wheat, world attention turned to Brazil to see if they would have a high-yield year, and be able to make up for the lack of production from Canada.
That’s just a recent example of how this works worldwide. There’s a baseline market demand, and if production of all suppliers falls short of that aggregated demand, first of all prices go up, but more critically, people turn to other commodities to fill the void, pushing prices up there too, and if that supply doesn’t satisfy the shift in demand, they go hungry.
Don’t think the shockwaves can’t reach us.
Freezing to death and no food, deliberate wake up
On the bright side, if one’s freezing to death, that may lead to snuggling together for warmth, which may lead to begetting children, which may lead to a demographic resurgence of Germans.
