Did the GOP not win the House? Did the DEMs find more votes? What happened?
The House win was table stakes. It was written into the dynamics as a baseline assumption given mid-term history. On top of it, the census gave the GOP additional opportunities to draw more favorable districts. Despite all this, we barely won a slim majority vs the massive red wave that everyone (including people here) were hoping and predicting. There is such a thing as performance vs expectations.
The GOP should've ran the board; House, Senate, and multiple statehouses. It should've been a slaughter.
Barely winning the House while losing almost all the state-wide races in the crucial battleground states that the GOP needs to flip is pretty damn pathetic, given the circumstances.
Sure, things could've been worse but by no measure were the midterm elections a success for Republicans, --unless you live in Florida.
