NEWS: John Thune, the No. 2 Senate GOP leader, says in interview Senate Repubs want to leverage the next US debt limit increase to force federal spending cuts and changes to Social Security and other entitlement programs.

“There’s a set of solutions there that we really need to take on if we’re going to get serious about making these programs sustainable and getting this debt bomb at a manageable level before it’s too late,” Thune told Bloomberg editors and reporters in Washington.

47 years, long hours, family time sacrifice,
staying in sleeze bag hotels hundreds of
miles from home. My choice. But worked
towards a 6 figure salary. And I’m
definitely not the only one.
There will be a wave of astronomical
proportions (from both sides) if they
start messing with our earned quality
of life. I made great pains of
planning, saving, strategic investments,
to make sure the wife and I wouldn’t be
raiding the local Pizza Hut dumpster
looking to fry up last nights’pizza
dough.

Billions for illegals. Billions for Ukraine. Trillions for climate change and BS infrastructure. Nothing for Social Security for the boomers who carried this country for four decades? Republicans really are losers.

.
Thank you for taking the time to write that.

One big problem, the Peeps on TV are making $20 Million a year.

They don’t even know anyone that has worked like we have. It’s like green cheese on the Moon to them.

It is too late. Mandatory spending will never be touched. They have bankrupted us already.

Raise debt ceiling for spending cuts that will never come.

Shell game to provide cover.

PLEASE NOTE: the Inflation Reduction Act cut funding for Medicare Part D.

The Government subsidies to Part D were completely removed.

“Social Security is a Ponzi scheme.”

Exactly right. Everyone is running around here acting like SS can continue forever. SS does not generate income. It is just a transfer. When it started the ratio of workers vs beneficiaries was over 150. Now it’s less than three. Call it whatever you want but the program isn’t sustainable.

Agreed. SS must be fixed. Raising retirement age would find little disagreement, so start there.

Disgusting that Thune speaks now, while Walker battles in Georgia.

If Trump was President and we were again energy self-sufficient and exporting, USA could afford SS for the years remaining in the babyboom bubble which is now passing through, but will soon ease.

Social Security is a Ponzi scheme.

Not really. It was turned into one when it was put in with the general fund.

OMG You couldn't be more wrong. They should LOWER it back to 65. Most people are not fat assed office workers. You are going to tell a tired auto mechanic he has to work unti 70. F that.

Nobody but a bunch of rich old GOPers wants to raise the SS retirement age.

All Republicans needed to do to win was NOT be crazier than the left. They can’t seem to do it. So they will keep losing to a senile old man and his party of lunatics.

“Social Security is a Ponzi scheme.”

Not really.

The creation of “money” by fractional reserve banking and the legalization of usury is a Ponzi scheme. Social Security is a subset, and a small one, of a much larger problem.

The fair solution would be to take the exact amount each person and their employers paid in, add interest for each year at the prevailing market rate (compounded) and pay each person back what they paid in

There are a shit ton of boomers and older who paid in a couple hundred or thousand dollars a year and getting that back monthly for decades

Then there are a lot of older gen x like myself who have paid the max contribution for multiple decades now who are unlikely to get much if any of it back by the time we hit official retirement age

It’s a completely socialistic program that needs to be phased out or made entirely voluntary

Isn’t that crazy?

All we need now is someone to make a comment about “Blacks in the Senate.” And more on abortion. That would seal the deal.

(Dripping sarcasm.)
