Don’t hold your breath waiting for McCarthy to kick Shift and Omar off committee. He doesn’t have the guts for that.

Self own sounds like a Republican thing to do. Andy Biggs is the only competitor for Speaker that’s emerged and he got a bit over thirty protest votes.

“I say that whatever it takes, they should stop McCarthy and his team from assuming leadership.”

I agree.

We’ve seen how much damage Boehner and Ryan did. McCarthy would be no different.

If sandwich boy would agree to never reach across the aisle he wouldn’t have a worry about being elected speaker. The undeniable fact that he is a deal cutting RINO is the only reason this is even being discussed.

McCarthy and the establishment GOP wanted Twitter to block the accounts of the few Politicians that supported Trump.

If that’s what you want…

My thought is that the harder it is for McCarthy to get elected, the more power the conservatives have, as opposed to him using his “power” pre-election to cut deals under the table with conservatives and have an easy win where he won’t necessarily have to come through on his deals.

If he loses on even one or 2 rounds, his opposition can be more visible with their demands, and he’ll have to be more transparent and accountable with his promises.

I think delay is our friend here.

What does happen to the committees, though? Do they carry over from the old Congress or are they non-existent until new members are appointed for the new session?

Thanks, all for the comments,

Love,
O2

What is the ideology of the new Republican representatives from New York and California? Eight of the worst RINOs, the ten who voted for impeaching Trump, were either defeated in the primaries or chose not to run for reelection. However, New York's GOP is notorious for producing moderate to liberal Republicans. California has been a mixed bag, with staunch conservatives like Bob Dornan but also RINOs like Pete McCloskey.

That statement could kill this thread...

From Wikipedia:

Andrew Steven Biggs (born November 7, 1958) is an American attorney and politician who represents Arizona’s 5th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. The district, which was once represented by Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake, is in the heart of the East Valley and includes most of Mesa and Chandler and all of Queen Creek and Biggs’s hometown of Gilbert.

A Republican, Biggs was a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011 and a member of the Arizona Senate from 2011 to 2017. He was president of the Arizona Senate from 2013 to 2017. In 2016, he was elected to Congress. In September 2019, Biggs became chairman of the Freedom Caucus, which includes the House Republican Conference’s most conservative members.

Andrew Steven Biggs was born on November 7, 1958, in Tucson, Arizona.[6]

When he was young, Biggs went on a mission to Japan for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and learned to speak fluent Japanese.[7] He later earned his B.A. in Asian studies from Brigham Young University in 1982, his J.D. from the University of Arizona in 1984, and his M.A. in political science from Arizona State University in 1999.[6][8]

Biggs worked as a lawyer for a firm based in Hobbs, New Mexico, before relocating to Phoenix, where he worked as a prosecutor. In 1993, he won $10 million in the American Family Publishers sweepstakes. He appeared in a TV ad with Dick Clark and Ed McMahon to promote the sweepstakes.

In 2016, Biggs ran for Congress from the 5th District to replace retiring Representative Matt Salmon. He led the field in the four-way Republican primary, finishing nine votes ahead of his nearest opponent, businesswoman Christine Jones. A recanvass boosted Biggs’s margin to 16 votes, and an automatic recount confirmed him as the nominee by 27 votes. His primary victory virtually assured him of being the next representative from the district; the 5th and its predecessors have been in Republican hands for all but one term since 1953.

During the presidency of Donald Trump, Biggs voted in line with the president’s stated position 82.9% of the time. During the presidency of Joe Biden, Biggs has voted in line with the president’s stated position 5.1% of the time.

Replying to a candidate survey from The Arizona Republic, Biggs wrote, “I do not believe climate change is occurring. I do not think that humans have a significant impact on climate. The federal government should stop regulating and stomping on our economy and freedoms in the name of a discredited theory.”

Biggs voted against the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2020 which authorizes DHS to nearly double the available H-2B visas for the remainder of FY 2020.

Biggs voted against Consolidated Appropriations Act (H.R. 1158) which effectively prohibits ICE from cooperating with Health and Human Services to detain or remove illegal alien sponsors of unaccompanied alien children (UACs).

Big Tech
In 2022, Biggs was one of 39 Republicans to vote for the Merger Filing Fee Modernization Act of 2022, an antitrust package that would crack down on corporations for anti-competitive behavior.

Why, he’d have to engage in reciprocal reaching across the aisle in that case. It’s a Uniparty Congress, you will have a Uniparty speaker.

Yup.

McCarthy is the probably the only possible Republican who can get elected Speaker without Democrat votes to put them over the top.

If people don't like McCarthy (bad as he is) , they are really going to hate whoever else gets elected, because it only goes worse after him . It's looking like the Freedom Caucus needs to face up to the fact that they need to get behind McCarthy and have a seat at the table or get. a disaster for speaker and be frozen out of power and marginalized for the next two years.

We live in a divided country and many Congressional Republicans will prefer to collaborate with Democrats than side with Conservatives. And enough House Republicans hate the Freedoom Caucus Republicans way more than they dislike their Democrat colleagues.

Sucks to be us, but that's the sad reality of the world we live in. We are dealing with the worst possible leadership at one of the most critical periods in American history.

An even sadder reality is that the US is looking frighteningly like Venezuela was at the start of the Hugo Chavez regime. With McCarthy, Conservative Republicans at least have a chance to push back as hard as McCarthy will let them otherwise, we may end up having guys like Peter Schiff running things despite the election and we will be really screwed.

McCarthy’s weakness is not so much as his positions but his firmness in fighting for them.

Andy Biggs fights, hard, and holds his ground.

I say rally around Andy. There is still a month to pick a leader, and I do mean a leader.

I just left a message on the House Freedom Fund website requesting a list of the current members. I think they could use some encouragement. I’ll try to put together a contact list later today, unless somebody already has one they could post.

I have some errands to run now.

Thanks all,

“Because of the popularity of Webster’s character, the term milquetoast came into general usage in American English to mean ‘weak and ineffectual’. When the term is used to describe a person, it typically indicates someone of an unusually meek, bland, soft, or submissive nature, who is easily overlooked, written off, and who may also appear overly sensitive, timid, indecisive or cowardly.”

I really like Andy Biggs but he has absolutely zero chance of being elected Speaker.

Zero.

All he can do is act as a spoiler to either get a disastrous non McCarthy Speaker elected or to force McCarthy to form a coalition majority that effectively removes the Freedom Caucus and conservatives from a seat at the table and freezes them out of power.

That's just the reality of the way it is.
