Twitter rolls back COVID misinformation policy

(Reuters) -Twitter Inc has rolled back a policy that was aimed at tackling misinformation related to COVID-19 on the social media platform, lending itself to the risk of a potential surge in false claims even as cases rise in China and some parts of the world.

The move also comes amid concerns of Twitter's ability to fight misinformation after it let go about half of its staff, including those involved in content moderation, under new boss Elon Musk.

"Effective November 23, 2022, Twitter is no longer enforcing the COVID-19 misleading information policy," according to an update on its blog page.

At the onset of COVID in 2020, Twitter instated a number of measures including labels and warning messages on tweets with disputed information about the health crisis and a framework to have users remove tweets that advanced harmfully false claims related to vaccines.

Meta in July sought the opinion of its independent oversight board on changes to its current approach given the improvement in authentic information sources and general awareness around COVID.

Early this year, Twitter said that since March 2021 it had stopped enforcing a "civic integrity policy" related to lies about the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

I run my mouth there like I do here. I’ve been back three weeks and would have been buried under Twitter jail multiple times under the old regime. Looks like free speech to me.

“Misinformation” is newspeak for censorship. We finally have a forum for the truth, for now.

The Washington Post published a new article in which it says that Apple's alleged threat against Twitter's Musk is in addition to all the major advertisers putting intense pressure on Twitter and Musk, as well as vast amounts of Twitter staff departing the company, and intensifying government regulatory scrutiny of Twitter and Musk, all because Musk is "pushing a 'free speech' agenda.' "

How DARE Musk push a "free speech agenda!" This is America! Free speech has no place in America! Isn't that right, Washington Post? ROFLMAO!

The mindless far-left Washington Post just unwittingly spelled out the obvious fact that Apple, all major U.S. advertisers, the overwhelming majority of Twitter's pre-Musk employees, and the Sleepy Joe "Administration" are extreme, far-left, anti-"free speech" communists.

Yet American voters continue enthusiastically and mindlessly voting for Democrat/RINO politicians at alarming rates. Sheesh.

“Meta Platforms Inc-owned Facebook and Alphabet Inc’s YouTube services employed similar measures, which are currently in place.”

Hard to see a problem - If people want the party line, they can go to CDC, Facebook, or Google. If people want the truth, they now have Twitter.
