Setting aside for the moment potential negative or unintended consequences, increasing the reflectivity of planetary features at any altitude could achieve the cooling goal of SRM.
They really are stupid.
This article doesn’t mention the best part. The particulate this plan calls for is sulfur dioxide. The stuff coal-fired power plants emit. Particularly dirty ones like China’s.
Well, in case there really is a very dangerous global warming (IF!), this seems to be a better solution than banning fossil fuels and all the idiocies we are supposed to do now!
My friend Robert Kennedy, the engineer from Huntsville, not the politician talked to the Russians after the cold war was over about building a Space Sun Shield for this. It was all futuretech at that point, so pre-SpaceX but there was interest from them to shield most of the world but increase their sunlight strength. They wanted a weather machine and to increase their wheat areas land in Ukraine and Siberia.
It’s a lot more closer now as soon as SpaceX Starship is ready. One of the other problems other than cost and scale is that it is one hell of a weapon plus we do probably don’t want to be doing planetary engineering on your sole planet.
So.....the fiction that was “Snow Piercer” will now become fact?
Imbeciles! They would accomplish their crazy goal by simply repealing the Clean Air Act.
What could possibly go wrong?
The voting electorate are stupid, in general. Addicted to blissful ease and mindless pleasure. Don’t expect them to know how to choose, analyze, and demand competent people to run the show.
If ya block sunlight, how do the solar panel thingies work? 😁😁😁
What could possibly go wrong?
/\
A massive uptic of OCPD.
Oh wait,,,
They’ve been spraying the atmosphere for about 20 years at least already.
What could possibly go wrong is basically this — small changes in the radiation budget (incoming solar energy) might be fairly minor in their effects in the tropical and temperate climate zones, let’s say they manage to reduce the incoming solar radiation by 1%, that would leave our climate colder by perhaps 1-2 C deg, but the big unknown is the effect in higher latitudes which are much more sensitive to rapid changes in climate in relatively small changes of energy budget. That is the main reason I would fear this proposal, and there’s no control planet to test this out before applying it here on earth. You could easily tip the balance rapidly towards the onset of a major glacial advance or an “ice age” climate and once you set that into motion, just stopping the aerosol program will not guarantee a reversal of those effects.
Fortunately I think this fact is well understood by those in the profession and if these proposals go much further they will probably start speaking out against the idea.
Those folks, well their just plain STUPID!
An article appeared in Popular Scince magazine about a thin aluminized mylar “web” spun between Earth and the Sun. Only Siberia was mentioned as being the benefactor, and the article appeared about 30-35 years ago.
I’ve mentioned the article here at FR on several occasions.
I recall reading articles about the “experts” wanting to coat the ice caps with a mix of coal dust and oil to absorb the solar radiation so as to prevent the coming Ice Age of the 1970’s.
So I guess if this new plan of theirs screws things up we can always go back to the coal/oil thing.
}{€££ they’ll probably try to spray the clotshot crap thinking that we’ll get those Pure Bloods one way or another.
MAybe they are going to put Stacey Abrams fat ass in orbit. That will block anything including the sun’s rays, asteroids, hemmoriods and Democrats
That is why most have never had a real job. 🙄🙄🙄
Bill Gates is already doing it, spraying aluminum and barium compounds out of high flying jets.
uh......... Alex jones please pick up the phone in the lobby
chem trails anyone? from years passed conspiracy theorists and tin foil hat MF’ers
