When the USSR disbanded, the Soviet Socialist Republics just had its weapons left on their territory. Under Gorbachev, responsibilities for a very large proportion of assets had been devolved to the administration of the republics.

Hence, everything left behind in Ukraine, Khazakstan, Belarus etc became their kit and their problem. And hence their property.

Which created an issue around nukes - by any non-soviet logic Russia could argue they were leased but thanks to Soviet Union logic they were the property of USSR first, SSR second, Russia third. The Ukrainian SSR didn’t own the nukes but it had ownership and Russia didn’t. Anyone arguing different is effectively saying that if you lease a car and the leaseholder goes bust the ownership of the car automatically goes to their biggest customer. It’s a dopey argument.

Russia didn’t own those nukes, but it was in control of the launch protocols (by virtue of legacy infrastructure) and it had the maintenance capabilities that the independent former SSRs didn’t.

So, they’re not Russian missiles. They’re Soviet missiles that at some point in the past were deployed to a former Soviet country that is now independent. Which country inside the USSR they came from originally is utterly irrelevant; what matters is where the missiles have been since the SSRs became independent nation states.

If they were left in depots in Ukraine then they’re Ukrainian property. If they were left in Russian depots, they’re Russian property.

OMGosh! your are a neocon, a globohomo, a NAZI!

We do need to pursue a green agenda, stop all petroleum production, reduce the world population, raise taxes to confiscatory fair rates, and fund education to the needed levels to ensure that trans people are fully accepted in our deeply racist society.

You technically dont have to be crazy to agree with the left, but it sure helps!
