Stalin was kinda right though - voter ID and verification is irrelevant unless you have an advance list of elegible participants and want to exclude other persons, but the who, when, for how long, and how the cast ballots get counted counting is more important.

Over here in the UK the most I’ve ever had to do is show my reminder card (everyone entitled to vote gets one in the post) or my driving license. When I vote my name and address gets ticked off a printed list. No correlation, no vote. My wife’s name and address isn’t ticked off until she shows up to vote.

If a second person shows up to vote using the credence of someone who’s already voted, then they’ll have to prove they’re me. If they can’t, they don’t get to vote. If they can, then 2 people passed the check and both votes count but there’s a note against that voter record and if a statistically significant number of double votes are cast then that’s a flag for investigating.

If the number of votes cast exceeds the count in the electoral roll then that’s very serious - turnout is rarely above 80% so 100+% is highly suspicious. Maybe people without a right to vote have voted, or people voted multiple times, or there’s been some ballot stuffing “man in the middle” revealed at the count.

The ballot count sheets with names crossed off or marked as double voted are then compared to a similar count of names sending in postal votes.

Our election results tend to be called within 16 hours of the polling stations locking the doors at 10pm. And aside from one constituency out of 650 appearing to be involved in shenanigans several elections ago, we don’t have recurring problems with the set-up.

America has the most cockamamie system that encourages the losing side to assume they only lost the election because the other side spent 2 days faffing about with sealed boxes or rigging the count in another way.

There is no mystery here, Mal. Our voting used to be straight forward as what you have in the UK. What ruined this was white Democrat hacks cultivating blacks lies about how they were denied voting.

This black exclusion from voting, went on 50-70 years ago in the deep South.

Well out here behind the Iron Curtain( Cartelfornia) I’ve seen illegals getting help with drivers licenses and they couldn’t even fill out the forms in Spanish they were so stupid. I’ve seen loads of developmentally disabled come in to vote...it’s their right you know. IQ be damned.

Personally stopped volunteering for election night when the computers and the “black box” tallies with”no mistakes.” We do have the address thing like you in the UK but we also have provisional ballots and other ballots for those not on the vote roster for some reason. No ID required.
