I grew up in southern California from the early 60’s, I moved there in ‘61. I have seen extreme demographic change. When I was young, California was very conservative and a safe place to live. But California attracted a very diverse, and not always self-sustaining element from other states which began to drag the state down. But it seems like the state took a nosedive after Regan’s amnesty

Very much so. CA has had net OUTmigration since the 1990s (more people leaving than coming in FROM THE U.S.).

It’s the massive immigration from Mexico and Asia which has sealed California’s fate, not people from Iowa (or even New York or Illinois) moving in.
