Many at that time DEMANDED the very actions that made the Depression WORSE.
It took FDR dying and Ike deciding to be a Republican to drift the country away from hard core socialism, and that was only at most half.
Most women want to be able to kill their babies. Most men want no responsibility and the ability to get high, screw, and drift threw life.
Most people, in short, want to be slaves. Belloc said it over a hundred years ago. I thought he was nuts when I first read it, but I can see he was spot on. Most people do not want to be free, they want to not have pain.
