Our local news bloviates on how we have to, just have to, get our jabs. They also like to link every bad weather event with Global Climate Change. They also give more positive coverage to leftist demonstrations than conservative ones, e.g. more pro- than anti-abortion.
However, this essayist is correct about the crime blotter stuff. They probably don't realize they are shooting themselves in the foot by starting every broadcast with BREAKING NEWS that usually involves criminal activity.
It's a mixed bag in my locale. Some do like you described, others present who said or did what, where and leave it at that. The article is a bit unrealistic.
