Former president Donald Trump boasted on Saturday that he’s polling way above “Ron DeSanctimonious” for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination, in an early taste of the rivalry that’s widely expected to develop after next week’s midterms.

The fact that Trump assigned the governor of Florida a derogatory nickname is a telltale sign that he considers him a legitimate competitor for 2024, and that he is indeed gearing up to run. Governor Ron DeSantis has long been regarded a GOP rising star and strong contender for president, one who could potentially have the conservative-populist credibility to take on Trump in a primary.
While presiding over the Sunshine State, DeSantis has demonstrated a willingness to apply government power to achieve conservative policy goals — incorporating some of Trump’s confrontational approach. For example, he enacted a mask-mandate ban for K-12 public schools and a prohibition on teaching gender identity and sexual orientation to elementary-aged children. Both laws received widespread support among residents. The hope of some Republicans who favor DeSantis over Trump is that he can pursue a similar agenda without the political baggage of the former president.

It is not automatic. Trump is old, he has narcisstic personality disorder, he has no sense of gravitas, he does not know who to trust and he is not the only one that can get things done. That being said, if the 2024 election is extremely close, and only for that reason, would I vote for him. I am not a Never Trumper or an establisment type. I am also not a lemming.

I wonder what silly nickname The Don will make for her when she passes Ron II for 2nd place in these hypothetical R primary polls? Which could happen soon after she takes office - assuming she declares invasion on Day 1 as promised?

You have been looking in the mirror too long.
And perhaps you are not seeing clearly. DeSantis is playing games, ambition being fed and allegiance being bought. He is looking like a tool that the establishment is positioning to protect the status quo.
When someone has nothing to say he says it with profanity. You are revealed.

Baris is right. Mcconnell, McCarthy, and Paul Ryan are working to split the vote. People are too stupid to see this. And DeSantis shows his ego can be used to manipulate him — he is weak minded. It may be missed by some but, Baris mentions McConnell et al plan to get rid of Youngkin using these same deceitful tactics. McConnell and McCarthy are the most dangerous weapon the democrats have.

He’s going to hurt his movement if he keeps messing with DeSantis. Negativity towards fellow conservative patriots is a stupid move. There’s enough tension/division in this country. But, At least we felt united amongst each other.
How about respecting the truth and not basing everything on what to sat to win?
POTUS Trump says what he thinks and in the end he has been proven right over & over. My highest value is not “make nice”; it’s letting light into dark corners and exposing the truth so that all know.
I wish he wouldn’t have said that.
