Chances are, Trump is utilizing northeastern humor. But then, maybe Trump knows something we don’t.
We don’t pay Trump to be perfect. We pay him to do a particular job, and he does that job very well.
Northeastern humor ?

“maybe Trump knows something we don’t”
That’s what I’m thinking.
Part of the job of the president includes duties beyond commander-in-chief and even beyond chief executive officer, those duties include head of the party and leader of the nation.
Leader of the nation in the sense that Lincoln led the nation, that Washington, Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan led the nation. They led the nation to adhere to their better angels, they led the nation in a spiritual and moral sense. Some presidents, John F. Kennedy in particular, in whom I find much to criticize, led the nation in this sense with a greater vision for what you can do for your country. He inspired the nation even though most of it was Buncombe.
Ronald Reagan inspired the nation to defeat Bolshevism. That is a moral crusade. It is an essential requirement for presidential competency much more for presidential greatness that he inspire the nation positively.
I will not debate here whether Trump has done that, but I will insist that that is just as much a part of a President's duties to uplift the nation as is vetoing an increase in taxes.
