Former President Trump says that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) should be impeached if he backs a plan for the debt ceiling to be eliminated over fears that House Republicans could cause the U.S. to default on the nation’s credit.
When asked by conservative radio host John Fredericks on Thursday about chatter surrounding the possibility of Congress effectively eliminating the debt limit, the ex-president lambasted the idea.
“It’s crazy what’s happening with this debt ceiling. Mitch McConnell keeps allowing it to happen. I mean, they ought to impeach Mitch McConnell if he allows that,” Trump said. “Frankly, something has to be — they have something on him. How he approves this thing is incredible.”
Members of the Senate and House cannot be impeached, though both chambers can remove a lawmaker with a two-thirds vote. The president is not involved in that process.
A McConnell spokesman declined to comment.
The remark comes shortly after a renewed effort by House Democrats to do away with the debt ceiling during the upcoming lame-duck session over fears that House Republicans, who are expected to capture the majority in Tuesday’s midterm elections, will use the borrowing limit battle to win cuts in federal spending and other programs.

Actually, a Senator was impeached and removed in the 1790’s.
He was a Tennessee Senator named William Blount.
Not true, but there's really no point. The first impeachment ever under the 1787 Constitution was of a Senator (Blount).
They ought to anyway.
Presuming Republicans when next Tuesday, many Trump Republicans, hopefully there will be a serious and successful push to replace leadership in both the Senate and the House.
Definitely needs to be recalled.
Mitch McConnell aka McComical proving more and more he’s the head of the Republican branch of the Deep State.
It would be easier to get fired up over his bad mouthing other Republicans had he shown a little more fiscal restraint when he was in office.
“Impeach” Mitch McConnell...come on, Mr. President. You can’t impeach a Senator. Moreover, he would have to be “impeached” for supporting legislation in a legislative body? Would it be the same legislative body that would pass said legislation?
Come on, Mr. President - don’t say ridiculous things.
Trump has no room to speak on this issue. His budgets were as bad as any produced by Bush. They were good only in comparison to the truly insane budgets produced by Obama and Biden.
The turtle and the rest of the Chinese humpers need to go.
I agree with you and Mr Lucky he was no fiscal conservative.
But something tells me he will have to act differently next time.
What’s the saying> “you have play the hand your dealt”
It would be nice if he picked someone like Rand as his running mate then you’ll know he’s serious. I’m not expecting it though.
Indeed. He didn’t meet a giant spending bill he didn’t sign. He hemmed and hawed about it, but always signed.
1. The Debt Ceiling was raised at leadt 5 times under Trump.
2. Senators can’t be impeached.
You’re dreaming!!!
The nomination for Speaker will take place shortly after the election by the LAME DUCK House. The election for Speaker will be held shortly after the new Congress is seated in Jan. Now, if a fight ensues at that time and the Republican party is split, it is very possible for a RAT to be elected as Speaker...even IF they are the minority party.
So what this comes down to is that should the GOP gain control of the House, whoever the LAME DUCK House nominates in Nov. will be elected as Speaker in January.
Nice little system these scumbags have made for themselves, eh?
He was making a POINT!
Sheesh.
Works pretty much the same in the Senate although with no Speaker position, it is strictly an intra party contest be it for majority or minority leader
Trump should know Senators and Congressmen cannot be impeached.
He was making a POINT!
Sheesh.
The only point he made is that he is ignorant in this matter.
McPOS has been in the Senate since 1984, he’s seen a lot of budgets. On the other hand *Trump was President four years but he’s the one responsible.
What?
What?
*I also recall a government shutdown for 37 days, that came to an end when Susan Collins rolled over like a “cheap hooker.” She’s one of McTurtle’s ‘bitches.’
He may be worse than the Demonrats.
