Calif. woman recalls attack, rape by homeless man — released from jail hours earlier

A rape victim in California has shared a harrowing image of her facial injuries after she was assaulted by a homeless man who had been released from jail just a few hours earlier.

Marissa Young, 44, of Torrance, was walking her dogs about 1 a.m. July 31 when she was attacked by Darrell Waters, 46, who was arrested days earlier

The homeless man was released on his own recognizance about 12 hours before the brutal assault, according to the report.

“I was tackled from behind, I heard nothing,” Young told KTLA. “I didn’t have headphones in, I wasn’t looking at my phone, I was just walking straight forward to my destination.”

This person punched me in the face, closed-fisted, 15 to 20 times at least,” she told the outlet. “My nose is broken in four different places and this bone was shattered here [she points to her upper cheek area]. You can still see a lot of swelling in my face.”

Young told CBS News that she fought for her life for “probably three-quarters of the attack,” which lasted for almost 30 minutes.

Young expressed her anger that the suspect had been released from jail so soon after his earlier arrest.

“Next time she will know to carry a sharp pointed instrument with her. And use it when she has to. She will get in trouble with the Law when she does”

I once took a medical and CPR class given at a local school. We spent the morning learning to give CPR, bandage wounds and reduce profuse bleeding using pressure and tourniquets. After lunch we had some discussion on what we had learned and a test.

The last two hours were taught by a retired US Marine who was there to teach situational awareness and personal defense. He had every woman empty their pocketbooks onto their desks. He then explained how each one of them had everything they needed in an emergency already on them.
Every woman had a small bottle of perfume. “Spray the perfume into your attackers eyes” he said, “guarandamntee he’ll be more worried about his eyes than beating on you. Run and call the police.”
He picked up a key ring and showed everyone how to use the keys. Hold them in the palm of your hand, let one key go between each pair of fingers. You have a dull but effective slashing/ripping weapon.
You have a pen? It’s a weapon.
A pencil? A weapon.
If nothing else get in close and bite like hell, grab his Johnson and squeeze like theres no tomorrow, because there might not be.

I can agree with that.

The category should be eliminated, if I recall it was greatly expanded by Obama and I think is now used to predominantly target conservative law breakers.

Punish people accordingly by the law only , criminal actions. Not by their skin hue, political persuasion and what “thoughts” they had or if they belong to a certain class of people with favored status.
