Politics change. Taking decorations you don’t rate is more of a character issue, and that kind of character flaw rarely changes, from what I’ve seen.

Southerners, Italians, Irish, Poles, etc - all once Democrats, now solidly Republican.

The Democrat party of the early 1960s was fine. Look at someone like JFK. Combat veteran, hunter, lifetime NRA member, strong on national defense, staunchly anti communist, cut taxes, patriotic...there was none of the woke crap then.

Show me a Democrat like that and I’ll happily support him/her. Of course one like that would be drummed out of the Democrat party today.
