One Word: G L O B O H O M O I believe there is some element of truth in that, but it still doesn't explain why Putin would feel it needed to be invaded.
Ukraine is a corrupt place, but so is Russia. For that matter, so is DC.

Here’s how paranoid Russia sees this… (note: you can’t blame the for paranoia because of their bloody history of being invaded)
1. The West Fomented a Color Revolution overthrowing the Government of a bordering country (Russia was Ukraines largest trading partner)
2. Disenfranchised voters in the east and south were immediately attacked after naturally announcing secession from the Revolutionary Government
3. The Russian language was outlawed by the Revolutionary Government
4. Seceding Oblasts started to lose to the Revolutionary Government, and asked Russia for help
4. Then Ukraine announced intentions for joining NATO
If any one of us were playing the board game “Risk” we would have attacked sooner.
