I was convinced that was an aberration, an outlier in history that has been learned from and certainly would not be repeated again. Now, I think that is man’s natural state and character, and it’s rather surprising we have made it this far without a repeat performance.”

Actually, throughout history peace has been the aberration, and war and conflict the norm.

Indeed. The improvement of technology has only made the killing more “cost effective”.

And besides, even if we’ve not had a “world war”, numerous parts of Asia, South America, and especially Africa have been hot zones of varying temperatures in the mean time.
