To understand the scale of the climate emergency, look at hurricanes
The Guardian ^ | October 1, 2022 | By Peter Kalmus

I became a climate activist 16 years ago. Back then, not many people cared about climate change. The eye rolls were audible. Media coverage was scarce, and what little there was glibly included “both sides”. It was frustrating and tragic to see such a clear and present danger and to know that it was still mostly avoidable, yet ignored by society.

I assumed that intensifying, in-your-face climate disasters would serve as a sort of backstop to finally force action. I even hoped that humanity would listen to scientists and start acting before things got that bad. I didn’t think this was too much to expect; after all, the scientific fundamentals are easy enough to grasp.

But things have turned out worse than I dreamed possible. I underestimated the depth and intransigence of society’s collective climate denial.

To understand what an emergency we are now in, you only need to look at a few of the most recent disasters. Hurricane Ian has just pummeled Cuba and Florida. The full extent of the disaster will only be revealed in the coming days and weeks, although first looks are shocking. But we do know with certainty that Ian was supercharged by global heating through several well-understood fundamental physics pathways.

In short, it has been a summer of climate insanity. But even so, this will be, on average, the coolest summer with the least climate chaos for the rest of your life. That is just the nature of trends. It should be terrifying.

Rising global heat is driving all the chaos. About 80% and 15% of global heating is due to the fossil fuel and animal agriculture industries, respectively. So long as these global industries exist, the planet will keep heating and climate chaos will keep getting worse. It’s that simple, and that inexorable.

That megaphone appears to be a giant source of environmental pollution. And I’m not even talking about the verbiage that’s coming out of it!

the planet will keep heating and climate chaos will keep getting worse.

Deranged Lunacy

The "planet" is only 1 degree celsius warmer than the coldest it has been in over 10,000 years.
The "planet" is 2 degrees celsius COLDER than the Warmest it has been in over 10,000 years.
Please explain which "fossil fuel" industries made the planet warmer 10,000 years ago?

Here just a few examples of bigger and more deadly storms that all occurred before the rise the “Climate Chage” foolishness

Andrew Cat 5, most destructive storm to ever hit Florida 1992

Hugo Cat 5, Cat 4 at landfall, $24B in damages 1989

Camille Cat 5 totally flattened everything along the Mississippi coast, 24 ft storm surge, second lowest pressure every recorded for a storm that made landfall in US 1969

Galveston Cat 5 deadliest on record 12000 dead 1900

Okeechobee $100M dollars of damage in 1928 dollars, 500,000 homeless, 2500 dead 1928

The Great New England Hurricane Cat 5 $6B in damages in today’s dollars, 682 death and over 57,000 homes destroyed 1938

Labor Day Hurricane Cat 5, 180 mph winds, storm surge of 20 ft, lowest pressure every recorded during a storm that made landfall in the US IF it struck the same area today it would cause billions of dollars in damages 1935

The Keys Hurricane 900 dead at a time when there was little development and few people living in the Keys 1919

San Ciriaco longest duration hurricane on record, strongest ever to hit the Outer Banks even to this day. 1899

True, but that has nothing to do with “climate change.”

Well, if you want to know more, I can not recommend any information gleaned from ANY link from a search engine - they’ll lead to snopes or CNN or the Compost, or the like.

You can research more about HAARP perhaps here on FR. It is used as a keyword in many FR articles. There is some info that could be gleaned from the comments on a FR title search as well.

I feel sorry for the people that have no mental acuity. They read or hear of the “dangers of climate change” in the media and sign on to the general beleif with no thought or analysis. They have not taken the time to look at the belief as it is being promoted. The propagandists in this field promote over-arching political and economic change in an attempt to manage, plan and dictate human behavior which they allege is bringing about planetary climate change with no significant proof that the following is occurring:

A. Overall climate change outside of historical norms.
B. That such change is predominantly human caused,
C. That measures can be instituted to impact this change,
D. That to do so requires taxes, regulations and changes in behavior overall authored by socialist totalitarians.

This taken-on-faith Climate Change is the opposite of scientific knowledge.

It is farcical and should be laughed at and denounced by all thoughtful individuals. Instead it it like all usages of the “Big Lie” concept — It is repeated and repeated in an attempt to thereby make it “Well Known.”

"It was frustrating and tragic to see such a clear and present danger and to know that it was still mostly avoidable, yet ignored by society."

Not as frustrating as watching a gullible public buy into this nonsense.

Yeah, that’s never happened before. Gotta be man-made climate change.

“There’s also a LOT more people living in areas now that hurricanes can impact.

Population of Florida 1950 2.8m
Population of Florida 2022 22m”

And take a look at where people are living. I looked at Google maps where the hurricane hit. There is a huge neighborhood where every house is on a canal. Neighborhoods spitting distance from the coast...with a lake in the middle. Places like that don’t stand a chance in a hurricane.

IF they start showing the altitudes at which they’re measuring the wind speeds... then maybe i’ll buy off on the ‘big’ storms.

but when you cannot find a single buoy or weather station to corroborate the estimates coming from radar... then it’s all a smoke screen.

storm surge damage combined with hide tide and CAT-2 winds can easily do the damage shown from Ian, especially when you realize most of the destroyed homes were 60+ yrs old (worse construction)

the media pumps up the wind speeds to keep their bs narrative of global warming shown via more ‘named storms’ and more ‘big storms’

Well let me know when they analyze the last 2000 years of Hurricane Data, oh that’s right we only have about 160 years worth to look at.
