Moscow planned to celebrated the annexation of huge swathes of Eastern Ukraine Friday but Putin’s party was wrecked by a lightning counter-attack that may have trapped thousands of his men in a key city supposedly now part of Russia.
Ukrainian sources claimed that the strategic city of Lyman, which has served as a Russian military hub in Donetsk, has been encircled and supply lines cut. “Lyman! The operation to encircle the Russian group is at the stage of completion,” said Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksiy Goncharenko on Friday. The claim could not be independently verified but, if confirmed, it would be one of the most serious Russian military losses of the war so far.
Pro-Kremlin forces have conceded that the Ukrainians have made major gains in the region and are close to cutting off the Russian staging post in northern Donetsk, which has been under Russian control since July.

When I first saw this I suspected probably deeply embellished considering the source a daily beast writer and Sure nuff it is I went through all my usual information stuff from Western media to what we would call middle of the road blogs and reporting to Russian media and this is what I found out

Apparently trying to push the lines back in anticipation of Russia’s mobilization which makes sense and they only attack
at night and they expect I suppose a good moon in the next week so that will be critical but the lines have not changed much as of two hours ago
The Russians have moved reinforcements into the area to make some sort of attempt to hold area considering I believe they are out numbered around five or 6 to 1 and I so Russians I’m not sure which troops they’re using I assume it’s still the DPR etc.
The point being this is a very fluid situation and the reality does not reflect what this article claims
I did also learn two other things two convoys leaving Ukrainian territory in this area and also Zaporozhya carrying Russian sympathetic civilians trying to get home to the Donbass or Russian controlled areas were attacked yesterday and scores of people murdered of course the Ukrainians claimed the Russians did it and the Russians claimed the Ukrainians did it but it does beg the question why would Russians kill their own
Ukraine especially the Azov battalion and other right sector groups have a history of this sort of thing going back to euro mate but it’s never reported in the media of course nothing ever is that is detrimental to woke America but I did not know this if any of this changes I will be the first to admit it or acknowledge it but that is what I have cleaned as of 1250 today
It’s really disheartening to see the Zelenskyy fan club here cannot for themselves get broader information it takes very little effort watch you know where to go it tells me they don’t want other information they prefer to believe the New York Times national public radio the daily beast the nation CNN MSNBC the guardian and other outlets they have come to trust so much that does not speak well of them sorry to say
I also listen to Putin speech which told me two things
He’s not happy and he’s very determined
It also made me chuckle out loud when he referred to the nations that destroyed the pipeline as Anglo-Saxons even though there’s nothing funny about it

This administration which is basically Obama part two is very reckless there are reckless with everything they do particularly with the Wolk revolution and they know nothing about waging war and prudent foreign policy and I will tell everyone here that is frightening we are on the verge of a world war over whether or not Russia can annex two ethnic Russian provinces and a country that has come and gone historically and is extremely corrupt and run by an oligarchy it makes no sense except I guess to the most misguided cold Warriors here it doesn’t to me
Putins speech also sadly gives a glimpse the world view many of non aligned have of the west

They haven’t, the entire world had bought the Russian propaganda about its new shiny, all-powerful, modernized military, that is one reason this guy’s analysis is so extraordinary, the other reason is its accuracy.

Oh, the underlying facts don’t matter to me. True or not. We will find out a decade form now. Not sooner.
But the headline gives away the motive. Read it again, slowly. then the article. 100 headlines and articles like that could have been written about the US forces in Europe in WW2. And, indeed they were - in Germany.
Way more than 100 articles of this sort, thousands upon thousands, WERE written, in the US, about Germany. The US press certainly wasnt playing fair vs the Nazis. And they were wrong?
The underlying facts of the particular case are the most important things in fact. The problem about wars on the part of we spectators, we groundlings, is its very difficult to penetrate the fog, to reach the truth. Therefore, if we can approach it through other analytic means it opens other regions of truth.
Is this story, thetefore, plausible? Well, given other available information, yes it is. So therefore we actually know something.
I don’t know about winning, but it certainly wasnt losing. The Russians hit a hard stop pretty quickly.
Ebb and flow I would guess. It happens, even in war/conflict.

My point was that US Forces in Europe in WW2 had setbacks, slaughters men at the hands of the Axis, poorly planned and carried out missions, retreats, etc.
Every military has those. But when they are described as “most humiliating defeat yet” you know that comes from a propaganda machine. Suppose the NYT had run a headline like that about some minor skirmish (which this was). “ . . . US troops face most humiliating defeat yet . . . “
He doesn’t appear too upset about it.
The Allied press had plenty of “the most humiliating defeat yet” and “ghost of Kiev” narratives vs the Germans. Do you think they were better about this than the Germans?
The press in war is almost always a part of a propaganda system. The few historical exceptions were in some western (US-Euro) wars conducted in an atmosphere of disunity at home - Vietnam say, a couple of years in, Algeria, etc.

Certainly not. My use of the WW2 analogy was simple to show which side of the propaganda machine this articles was on. Frankly, I think that posting this sort of propaganda is beneath FR traditions.
You made claims. Provide some proof.
After that you can work on proving your other claims.
Russian excuses lies are just excuses and lies. Putin is using war, blackmail and threats about war to bully the West into submission. After 30 years the West has had enough of it.
