Not really. The AK-12 is not well regarded by the AK community. Look up Brandon Herrera and Military Arm Channel’s review of the AK-12. The Serbians (M90) and Bulgarians (SAM5) have been making 5.56mm AKs for years based on the milled AK47 or stamped AK74.
Not being up to speed on current AK manufacture, I did a little research, and found that you are correct, there is controversy and disappointment in the AK community regarding the AK-12.
It has renewed my interest in firearms and I will read up, even though I lost all my guns in an unfortunate boating accident.
