That image reminds me of Galveston in 1900 but with better-built structures. The storm surge left a horrible mess, that's to be sure. And to think this monster storm was predicted to hit the Tampa Bay area in early estimates. If it had hit Tampa Bay, the damage to both Tampa and St. Petersburg just from the storm surge would have been ENORMOUS.

Also a lot of corporations have their operations in the Tampa Bay area that would have been impacted.
