I listened to a gal who was also asked about help, on a video. She clearly stated why would I want help when I have everything I need as I am . She listed off food, a basically cardboard tent, clean needles for her drug habit, donated clothing all provided including medical, emergency services if she's ODing. etc etc. She is perfectly content living on the streets continuing her drug addiction and lifestyle.....as she said everythings provided for her she needs to enjoy her highs.

“up close view of everything that’s going wrong in our cities with the homeless and some insight into why these problems persist”

The problem will persist and get worse as long as you keep calling it the “homeless problem” instead of the correct name whi h is the “druggie problem”.

What I can’t figure out is what the long-game is for the people who refuse to clean up the streets of these people.

When Republicans had power, they could at least use their street-people to club Republicans on the head as people who don’t care.

But now they have all of the power - so what purpose do these street people serve? They’re clearly out there for a reason.

There is no long game......what they’re doing is abiding by Demorat policies regarding the street people at the expense of citizens and business owners. Think Portland.

Pelosi said ...”People are going to do what people do”.......

My wife is a police/fire/EMS dispatcher. In recent months, her workload is filled with many more mentally ill using 911 as a substitute for their social workers. The volume of calls places the rest of the city at higher risk for adequate 911 service. Fortunately, there is more than a single incoming 911 line, so she can prioritize service for a heart attack or vehicle accident over hand-holding the mentally ill.

Many of the local motels were hurting for business when COVID arrived. They converted from daily rooms to extended stay. Most are now filled with mentally ill, drug addicts and other social losers. There was just a homicide last week when one of the resident registered sex offenders was killed by another resident felon out on probation. Extended stay hotels are not a safe place to be in the new world. As a follow on, the wife of the killed registered sex offender has been attempting a drug overdose every other day.

When the 90s rolled around and I was still in San Diego, I realized that my vote no longer mattered. I had become a source of tax revenue for CA, but the state no longer served my interests. It took a while to decide where to go. In the final analysis, Idaho met my needs. Not 100%, but the list of pro vs con was most strongly weighted pro. I lament a lack of electronics parts stores, ham radio stores, good quality book stores and longer stretches of nice weather to enjoy riding my motorcycles. Amazon and other internet sellers can supply some of the parts. Radio Shack really went downhill. Very little meets my needs and what is present is priced 3x higher than it should be.

Amazon, Gigaparts, Ham Radio Outlet, Digi-Key, Mouser, Sparkfun and Adafruit provide adequate selection at a fair price. Everything is drawn out over weeks vs doing it in a couple days with locally sourced parts. One project remains on hold as a critical component hasn't been manufactured since COVID hit the factory.

“What I can’t figure out is what the long-game is for the people who refuse to clean up the streets of these people.”

They haven’t totally crashed the system yet. When that happens they can set up their RevCom dictatorship. Then all the “homeless people” will be disappeared, and I don’t mean to rehab.

I have heard this is not a problem in Chinese controlled areas of CA.
Port of Long Beach and others.
True?
And if yes, how so?

In the wake of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Liberals got the nation's mental hospitals shuttered during the late '70s and '80s for "humanitarian reasons." They're always deeply influenced by movies and television, but they leave the rest of us to deal with reality.

"She will eventually die in the gutter"

they basically have given narcan to every cop, fireman, ambulance driver, etc so we can SAVE all these addicts...we sure wouldn't want them to die from their drug use.....:(

its the judges too...in my area, they ruled that it was against the civil rights/law/something for cops to remove the bums from sleeping on the streets....

we're not even able to clear their shanty towns without the peace and justice league putting up a fit and a lawsuit.

so what purpose do these street people serve? They’re clearly out there for a reason.

They're the motivator to get voters to approve ever more billions to "help the homeless" ... election after election after election.

The Homeless Industrial Complex must be fed. Lots of people making bank on having such rampant squalor.

They ought be shot in the streets and the shanty towns burned down by masked men in dark clothes. This is just more of the war on the normal and good by the perverted, corrupt and bent (think Bill Clinton). Unless the normal are willing to be twice as violent and cruel as the perverts we will lose and a new dark age will descend.

The city should take a bunch of front loaders and go down the sidewalks, scoop people, junk, etc, haul it all to the bay and dump it.
