“Ironically, the customers opted into this loss of autonomy through their energy provider, Xcel, in exchange for a $100 sign-up rebate and $25 per year.”
You can’t fix stupid.
wrap your thermostat in those reusable freezer packs ...
You got that right.
I thought the new washer was just spinning the heck out of the clothes for them to come out almost dry or dry in some spots.
Turns out it doesn’t use enough water to get them all wet on the regular setting. I have to add a bucket of water from the sink in the utility half the time.
On the plus side, when President Trump is reelected in 2024, he will be the first president since Franklin Roosevelt to win 3 presidential elections in a row.
Greta is trying to get wood burning banned in Europe.
(wood is currently rated “carbon neutral” by Eurocrats)
Will be interesting to see how that goes in US.
Stupid government regulations.
They are idiots if they think people aren’t going to find a work around, like you did.
One of the reasons we never got a “smart thermostat”.
The younger generation will not put up with that. Boomers can live without electronics, no phone, no heat, no netflix, they’ll melt. They’ll talk a good game but will not sacrifice their lifestyle.
Well they've already mandated "clean" stoves with extra equipment, so I wouldn't be surprised if a ban is next. I thought in certain cities wood burning was illegal.
Good grief! Several new models of Speed Queen (my favorite) and Maytag (the "Commercial" model for homes) now have settings that fill the wash tub completely. Just like the washers from the 'old days'...
Those 2 types of washers are pricey, but worth it, IMO.
Yeah. There are two settings that will do that, but it’s pretty inconvenient when I just want to wash a couple pairs of pajamas.
That is true, unfortunately. On my Maytag Commercial (for home) washer, I suppose you would use the “Normal” setting that fills the tub half full to wash a couple pairs of PJs. You could still use one of the settings that fills the entire tub, however. There’s no setting for 3/4 full, etc.
Yep, or the low flush toilets that don’t work so I have to flush them 3 times. That’s really saving a lot of water :P
Finally
At least during winter I’ll win thermostat wars with my rib!
Ha, ha. “Normal” on mine means about 2 cups of water.
I tried the idea I’ve read so many places about wetting the clothes before starting the washer, but mine will spin the load out before it starts the wash cycle when I try it. I know it’s laughing at me.
Gonna take a brick to it one of these days, and find me a good scrub board.
Thank goodness 20 yrs of fluid dynamics development has fixed that problem.
I got a new Eljer at Menards that’s a winning flush every time, only problem is it’s LOUD.
The only way anyone can control you with smart tech is if you let them. Every “smart” control can be manipulated. Don’t let yourself become a slave. I’m just an “under educated” technician and can always fix those fancy “smart” things to do what I want.
I’ve spent 50 years cutting hundreds of thousands of trees, piling them up in barn sized piles, and throwing used oil on them, and torching them. Miss the days of throwing in truckloads of tires to get them them going good
She already hates me
You may want to look into one of the top-load washers below. Yeah, they're pricey, but - I think they are worth it.
We have the Maytag Commercial washer in our house in Connecticut - we plan to sell this house soon, and we won't be taking this washer with us.
In our house in South Carolina (which we will permanently move to "soon"), we have the Speed Queen T5. I'm happy with both washers, although I admit I like the Speed Queen better.

Utility companies will soon learn that if they turn down the thermostat, people will just plug in space heaters

Are window unit air conditioners still on the market?
