Presumably, these would be sanctions that would not take effect unless/until China moved against Taiwan. Otherwise, imposing them now would indeed be stupid.

Under 20% of Chinese foreign trade is US related. It is going to be sponsor ve to live without it but not fatal for them. Now check whatever consumer good at every shop and find what is not Chinese made.
The Euroidiots screwed themselves by shunning Russian energy, you are going to make it worse for the American people.

It’s interesting that Xi is meeting with Putin this week. It looked like in the runup to the meeting that Xi was perhaps preparing to voice his support for Russia more fully. Li Zhangshu (China’s number 3) offered strong support for Russia for the first time last week after meeting with Putin but before the recent Russian setbacks.
