It’s worth noting that the area recaptured by the Ukies isn’t what Russia most covets, i.e., the Donbas and the coastal areas of the Black Sea. Hence, it was weakly defended by marginal troops. The same rivers and marsh land that aided this offensive also work against the Ukies continuing further East than the Oskol River. None of that diminishes that it was a brilliant offensive.
I think I saw 300 square km earlier.
It’s also not at all clear to me that the Kherson offensive has failed. It’s pinned down a huge number of Russian troops West of the Dnieper - which has weakened Russian forces elsewhere in Ukraine. But also, they’ve clearly lost ground in Kherson and are in danger of being cut off and encircled. Unlike the Russians, the Ukrainians seem to take operational security somewhat seriously - and I wouldn’t put too much stock in Russian claims of massive Ukrainian casualties, which they have been making since day one of the offensive.
You may be right but that doesn’t speak well of the Russians - the recaptured territories in Kharkiv are strategically important for holding onto the Donbas. If they didn’t see that, they screwed up!
Kherson also has two “elite” divisions of the VDV and a Spetsnaz brigade. The Russians put a lot of their quality there. Which means of course that they cant be used elsewhere.
And for all we know the Kherson pocket will crack open tomorrow. This kind of pressure is cumulative.
Russian paratroopers? You mean the VDV (Very Dead Vatniks)?
—”How many paratroopers do you have left alive btw?”
The vatnicks seldom answer an honest question.
It's a European problem. let the EU bail out Ukraine.
This is not what it appears to be.
Kremlin specialists have determined that our Glorius Red Army of Convicts and Mongols has liberated enough mobile phones and washing machines to meet Five Year Plan target for Kharkhov Oblast. Red Army has been ordered to assist with the transfer of denazified goods to Belgorod, where they will be awarded the Order of Shoigu.
Presently, the denazification of consumer electronics and major appliances is continuing in Kherson and Zaporozhye Oblasts."
“What is our defense against dupes like you, who think “our” last defense is a dictator aligned with Red China, North Korea, Iran, Syria?”
Do you feel your govt was legimately elected Nov 3? Do you feel the mass warrantless surveillance of ordinary Americans by the DOJ, NSA and FIB is legal and constitutional? Do you feel the last five wars the the US and NATO started, (Yugoslavia, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and Ukraine) were about “saving democracy?” If you answered yes to any of the above, I can’t help you. Let’s talk in a month when this Kharkov offensive is a pile of mangled bodies and tanks.
I don’t believe anything coming out of this war...
Don't you understand that Russia is no defense against any of the things you list? DId it ever occur to you that maybe Putin was destroying his own nation and military to help out with a greater cause that he believes in? You do know he met with Liz Cheney many years ago, early in his career.
A bunch of farmland?
The Russian MOD propaganda channels showed a video of reinforcements arriving early in the battle. Within 48 hours the IFV shown in the video was abandoned in a ditch. I feel bad for the families of the Russian guys who were riding in to battle on it.
Yes. Along with some small cities, and most importantly the only rail lines and major roads that allow supplies from Russia to reach front line troops further south.
That cut off tens of thousands of Russian soldiers from food, ammunition, fuel and most importantly artillery shells. Which is why there are miles long convoys of Russians trying to escape to the east.
Some of the recaptured territory also allows Ukrainian artillery to reach what were previously safe Russian rear bases and shipping areas.
It hasn't. It is doing what you described and more. The attrition of Russian troops, resources, and officers is ongoing. And at some point Kherson will fall to the Ukrainians.
Unfortunately, that's what happens when you defend your country against a foreign military invasion.
And, Putin still has more nukes than any other country in the world.
The only real purpose those nukes serve is to deter a foreign nation from trying to conquer Russia, which wasn't going to happen anyway. So if Putin wants to twiddle his nukes in his hands like Captain Queeg and his marbles, more power to him!
You don’t like Putin? Why? Is it because the Daily Mail said he’s a bad person?
I always ask the question, but I never get a logical and concise answer. It’s always something along the lines of “I just don’t like him!” or “He’s evil!” For Democrats it’s “It was Hillary’s turn and he ruined it and now he has to pay!
Can anyone give me a list of Putin’s sins that outdoes Biden’s career of sins? Coup d’états? Weaponizing the government against the people? Jailing dissidents? Corruption? attacking nations that don’t play ball? executions? Assassinations? I think, if you’re honest, you’ll see Biden/deepstate is by far the bigger threat to ordinary people.
To the extent that analogy would have even the vaguest applicability, Russia surrendered Bastogne (Izium) without a fight, and the Ukrainians reached the Meuse (Oskil) ahead of schedule.
Good enough reason to dislike him, I'd say.
