People ask to be put on a ping list.
So you have a list of the users, and you list them on the to ping list when significant news comes your way.
Many if not most lists have a short half life. When basically all the new info has been shared.
I still get or send pings on a few items/issues 10 years and older when some new news on an old subject comes out.
Some last a few weeks.
