Democrats are once again meddling in a GOP primary — this time in a competitive New Hampshire House district, with the goal of elevating a far-right candidate over a moderate backed by GOP Gov. Chris Sununu.
The intervention in the race to take on Democratic Rep. Annie Kuster comes from an unlikely source: Democrats Serve, a new PAC that backs Democratic candidates with public service backgrounds. The group has booked some $94,000 on cable TV to boost Bob Burns, a pro-Trump Republican who is campaigning as the “only pro-life candidate” in the Sept. 13 primary.
Snip
Burns has raised far less money than his chief rival, Keene Mayor George Hansel, who Democrats feel would be a far more formidable candidate against Kuster. The ad could raise Burns' name ID and potentially endear him to conservative voters in the final stretch of the race. It will run in the Boston and Burlington, Vt. markets on Fox News Channel, according to the media tracking firm AdImpact.
“I’m also the only pro-Trump, unapologetic conservative,” Burns says in the spot, which uses footage of him at a campaign event. “I’m against pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens. I want to build the wall and I’m an America First candidate.”
President Joe Biden carried the district by 9 points in 2020, and Republicans are hoping to contest the seat in the midterm election.
Hansel appears better positioned than Burns to pick up crossover voters. He describes himself as “pro-choice” and has been an advocate for fighting climate change. He nabbed an early endorsement from Sununu, a popular governor who has won statewide by casting a centrist profile in a purple state. Hansel also once appeared at a Black Lives Matter rally in Keene, drawing attacks from his opponent.

I welcome the Democrats' assistance in defeating the RINO in the primary.
This myth that moderates are tougher to beat is belied by the fact that Senator Sununu was defeated, then McCain-loving Scott Brown was defeated, then McCain-loving Kelly Ayotte was defeated.
REAL conservatives actually CHALLENGE Democrats and their crazy ideas, while moderates go along with them.
So good riddance to another moderate Republican on September 13th.
Yahoo News SUCKS!
The Truth is always the missing ingredient.
Even if a “moderate” is more likely to win, so what?
What benefit is there to having a Democrat who claims to be a Republican.
Isn’t the New Hampshire House something like 220 members, who only meet for a few weeks a year, for a small nominal stipend? Isn’t that the reason New Hampshire has remained so free, and had such a relatively small government?
Dems voting for the dem in the republican primary, so whomever wins is a dem. This will backfire on them, when the righty wins the general.
New Hampshire’s House has 400 members. They meet every other year and get paid $200/year plus mileage. But
But the article is about one of the two Congressional seats, that is, the US House.
So I moved to NH in December - so still trying to figure out the personalities. Anyway, I have never heard of Hansel and have only seen Burns signs around. I looked up Burns and decided to vote for him on the spot. That was about two months ago.
So Hansel is pro choice, pro BLM and pro climate Nazi - why would anyone vote for him over Kuster? Where is the difference between them? Thanks yahoo for educating me on Hansel and confirming that I will be voting for Burns.
That’s different, obviously. You can run for a house seat for $94k? I might pick up one of those some day.
NH is a pro choice secular state. It is 13% Evangelical, fifth lowest in the nation.
The Repubs might stumble into the majority in the House, but winning is not the #1 priority this time around. Purifying the GOP is. In the end, the GOP will be smaller but feistier.
I am unfortunately in Kuster’s district.
I am getting all the fliers these days for the primary.
I am leaning towards Lily Tang Williams for the primary.

I like her story (escaped commie China to live in US), similar to my wife’s. Trump supporter, very pro-2nd, runs her own business, pro-life, etc...
A non-politician. I like that.
I like the way the way you think on that. So encouraging to see people who have been paying attention.
We have RINOs because we elect (not withstanding election integrity shortcomings) RINOs to positions that real Republicans should be occupying. If most of the RINO represented areas experienced the destruction of a Democrat leadership for a term or two, they would be begging for a real Republican to clean up the mess. We can’t clean up Democrat destruction with a RINO, because RINOs and Democrats are comrades.
It is a shame people have to experience the destruction before they realize the errors of their ways, if some of them ever do.
Way past time to play Rat-RINO- moderates games with the voting. Do vote for the most conservative, pro MAGA candidates out there and let the chips fall where they may. As for anyone who votes for Rats and RINO’s the disastrous results they may personally experience is richly deserved and no sympathies unless they do a 180. Otherwise let them go down with their chosen ship of fools.
“I like the way the way you think on that. So encouraging to see people who have been paying attention.”
I’ve been watching politics for years. I’ve seen all the games.
Bingo.
Yeah, no, we don't want this guy.
I like Tang as well.

Turned out good this time, but open primaries are a bad idea. Each party should control its own nominees.

Yes, I agree. But I believe the Democrats are attempting to convince the Republicans to vote for the conservative over the moderate, not convince Democrats to take a Republican ballot in the primary to support the conservative over the moderate (though some may do that).
