Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, who has fathered 10 children, said on Monday the world needs to "make more babies" -- and keep digging for oil.
The richest man on the planet, who has repeatedly warned that low birth rates posed a "danger" to civilization, said ahead of an energy conference in Norway that the world is facing a "baby crisis".
Asked about the greatest challenges facing the world, Musk cited the transition to renewable energies but also said the birth rate was "one of my favourite... things to be concerned about."
"We don't want the population to drop so low that we'll just eventually die," Musk, founder of American electric car manufacturer Tesla and SpaceX, told reporters in Stavanger, southwest Norway.
"At least make enough babies to sustain the population," he added.
He also said the planet still needed new fossil fuel sources.
"I think realistically we do need to use oil and gas in the short term, because otherwise civilization would crumble," he said, adding that "some additional exploration is warranted at this time".

I gotta give Elon credit for personally doing his duty of repopulation.
Until the world realizes that you need a better energy source than wind/solar, we have to use fossil fuels.
If there was sensible green energy policy it would have advocated many new built nuclear power plants, and done so long ago.
He’s right on both counts - and I salute him for having the guts to come out publicly against the WEF narrative. Not many others have the guts to do so.
WOW, He’s the anti-Bill Gates.
I like this...if he means it.
Even Mr. EV recognizes that EVs only make sense for virtue signaling upper middle class suburbanites (the same demographic that the left is trying to eradicate), and not a very good solution for city or country dwellers.
Look, after the black plagues Europe lost 20-30-40% of it’s population. What happened? Econmic miracles happened. Less workers meant higher wages and more babies. Lather, rinse, repeat.
With current technology, the materials needed for wind, solar, and electrified vehicles can only be obtained using oil and gas.
Only those who emotionally hate hydrocarbon energy want to ban its use everywhere because they do not understand how things are done. They do not understand how things are made.
These are the same people who constantly talk about redistribution of wealth, but have no plan for production of goods once you take away the profit motive.
Stop ALL LEGAL immigrtation for a few generations and let wages rise. Higher wages and prosperity always leads to a baby boom.
Elon is speaking to first world countries here. I’d love to do more to replenish the planet but the only woman who felt sorry enough for me to marry me is too old to have babies anymore.
It used to . . . now the solution of the WEF is to have third world hordes overrun the first world. Most of them aren’t much interested in working.
Why do you think he is calling for drilling for more oil? We will need to burn it to generate all the additional electricity that will be required to charge up his EVs.
He’s making way too much sense.
Is Elon married? I thought he was a baby daddy not a father.
You could make a donation at a sperm bank and hope your conservative genes would be dominant in any resultant children.
“Stop ALL LEGAL immigrtation for a few generations and let wages rise.”
Wasn’t that in effect for a few decades — until sometime in the ‘60s maybe? Not sure. Seems I heard that.
LOL! I don’t think they take donors over 60.
Correction: Middle-class couples need to have more babies.
Welfare women have more than enough babies.
We need kids who will grow up to maintain civilization, not rip it down.
The world needs fathers to marry the mothers FOR LIFE.
He wont do that, even with all his money.
