US Route 301 through Bradford County is a notorious speed trap.

“Since US 301 is a popular short cut between Northeastern Florida and the Gulf Coast region, a number of towns along the road have been notorious speed traps. The speed limit drops from 65 mph to 30 mph in a matter of a few hundred feet. Many have accused the police in Waldo, Starke, Lawtey, and others of giving tickets simply to raise money. The American Automobile Association has strongly advised motorists to avoid this stretch of the road.”
Note that the stop was in the heart of the notorious speed trap.
Perhaps this ridiculously aggressive stop by Deputy Big Ego will draw attention to the absurdity of allowing these tyrannical small town speed traps to persist. All they do is predate on out-of-town drivers to pad their local budgets. It’s armed robbery under color of law is what it is.
Were this occurring in 1775 our Forefather’s response would be swift and appropriate. Why we put up with this crap today escapes me.
While it is a speed trap area, she was going 75 in a 55. It wasn’t a 30 mph portion of the road.
