Provision was part of teachers Union deal struck March 25 to end a 14-day teacher strike affecting 29,000 students.
A Minneapolis Public Schools' contract with a teachers union says that white teachers will be laid off or reassigned outside of seniority order before “educators of color” if Minneapolis Public Schools needs to reduce staff.
The clause was part of the deal struck by the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and MPS on March 25 to end a 14-day teacher strike affecting 29,000 students.
Alpha News reported the story and a partial screenshot of a contract.
“Past discrimination by the District disproportionately impacted the hiring of underrepresented teachers in the District, as compared to the relevant labor market and the community, and resulted in a lack of diversity of teachers,” the agreement says.
The clause aims to ensure a diverse teaching population and positions in specific programs that are hard to fill and require special certifications like speaking multiple languages.
“Teachers working in the following programs may be exempted from district-wide layoffs outside of seniority order to remedy the continuing effects of past discrimination, ensure continuity of instruction to students at these sites based on the difficulty in filling vacancies at these sites with staff who are appropriately licensed, certified, and bi-literate in the appropriate language,” the contract says.
Exemptions include the following programs:
Racially isolated schools with the greatest concentration of poverty (a state designation lasting for three years).Montessori schools.Immersion. Native and Heritage language literacy programs.Grow Your Own, a student-to-teacher pipeline. Teachers who are members of populations underrepresented among licensed teachers in the district.Alumni of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, and Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities programs.
The agreement says that if a non-white teacher is subject to excess, or reducing positions in a school, then MPS must excess a white teacher with the “next least” seniority.
“Starting with the Spring 2023 Budget Tie-Out Cycle, if excessing a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers in the site, the District shall excess the next least senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population,” the agreement reads.
I guess Whites only bathrooms and water fountains weren’t so bad after all.
Instant (winnable) court case.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
And since the white teachers being laid off are almost entirely liberals in their politics and personal lives, the very ones who made the whole CRT and 1619 projects their priorities, and were agitating for the “sex reassignment” programs to be made more widely available, is this discrimination any longer?
The revisionists begin to eat their own. The useful idiots may now be dismissed.
The piss poor “teachers” will be protected. Glad to hear the Minnisooooooodans have too many teachers. Everywhere else is hurtin’ for teachers.
Don’t tell them that they’re legitimizing segregation and discrimination.
They’ll be shocked when someone uses their actions as a defense.
Outright blatant racism. Period. Full stop.
Also last to be rehired.
“Instant (winnable) court case.:
May take awhile working it’s way through the woke lower level courts/judges it will encounter early on but it is ultimately a slam dunk as it is brazen racial discrimination.
Lawyers will have a field day with The Civil Rights Acts of 1961 & ‘64 when the first layoffs happen.
“Instant (winnable) court case.”
In Minnesota? I wouldn’t be so sure.
“The revisionists begin to eat their own. “
You know, I was angered by this story until you provided context.
Now I simply smile.
This is what they did to Jews in Germany before the holocaust!
All white teachers and subs should walk out Monday and stay out. Let them teach the kids with all minorities and see what happens. Also, all white supers and principals and all white workers should just WALK OUT.
easy law suit to win.
Who are people of color? Blacks or anyone who is not white. We have gone full circle from government discrimination vs certain minorities to Brown vs Board of Education to eliminate it back to government discrimination vs one race among all the US citizens of different races. Not only is this unconstitutional but it cannot stop there. The person who was responsible for public sector Minneapolis schools institutionalizing this racism needs to be fired and prosecuted for civil rights violations. We need to send a message that this hatred stops now.
Agreed. Turn it into a Mogadishu enclave. Them them choke on their own sewage.
Are union contracts exempt from the Civil Rights Act of 1964?
