And some are cutting back because of the empty store shelves and decline of the quality of food in restaurants. I used to love strawberries, but the last time I bought them they were tasteless like eating cardboard.

“The 10# box of Quaker Oats has gone up from $8.99 last fall to almost $15 per box as of yesterday.”

Holy cow.

Yup, almost double.

And that’s a grain crop. I expect that whatever weather conditions affected the oats will affect other grain crops.

BJ’s sells King Arthur flour in 12 pound bags. It had been $7.59 a couple months ago, and is now $9.99 as of last week.

Come the holidays, when baking supplies go on sale, I usually stock up for the year. I will again this year. We have an enclosed porch that is not heated and so freezes. I plan on storing stuff like that out there for longer storage life.

I listen to Joe Bastardi’s Saturday Summary on Weatherbell. He’s been talking about a nice mild fall through Oct, and then Nov - Jan very cold.

I hate it when winter hits at the beginning of Nov. It makes it SO long.

4 in 10? More like 8 or 9 out of 10.

I checked both Sam’s and BJs for Quaker Oats Quick oats/1-minute variety...

Sam’s...$15 for 10# container
BJs...$7.50 for 5# container

Both places, the same price per pound!

I love oatmeal but generally avoid it as I tend to load it up with brown sugar and butter...so not a healthy meal for me. I should get some willpower.

Cutting back on sugar is tough, but once you do it, when you go back to what you were used to, you wonder how you could have stood it.

I would say the butter isn’t as much of a problem as the sugar.

You could add some chopped up apple and a little cinnamon sugar to it.

Or maybe take one of the packets of instant, pre-flavored oatmeal and mix it one to one with the plain quick oats to reduce the sugar load, although, if you still had a whole packet, you’d still get that same sugar amount. You’d really have to cut back on the packet and maybe split it into two days worth.

Should I stock up on that in case Biden screws things up even worse.

It wouldn’t hurt to be on the safe side I have some in my emergency earthquake kit it may not be the best food but when your hungry and nothing else is round you get to stay alive.
