"Top Gun: Maverick" took to the skies in late May and hasn't looked back. Tom Cruise's latest release is now the ninth-highest grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office.
"Maverick," the sequel to the hit 1986 film "Top Gun," has grossed nearly $650 million in the US alone, a feat that has only been accomplished by a handful of other films.
Just last week, "Maverick" blew past 2012's "The Avengers" to take sole possession of ninth place on the list, and is within striking distance to pass No. 8 "Jurassic World" and seventh place "Titanic," according to data from Box Office Mojo.
The top 10 highest-grossing movies at domestic box office

Top Gun: Maverick' is the first billion-dollar movie in Tom Cruise's career Despite blockbuster hits like the long-running "Mission: Impossible" franchise and 2005's "War of the Worlds," "Top Gun: Maverick" is the first film in Tom Cruise's 40-year-career to gross more than $1 billion globally.
Cruise, who has been a proponent of getting movie lovers back in cinemas and who recorded a thank you video that played before certain "Maverick" showings, last month thanked fans "for venturing out and allowing us to entertain you."

Because it is a basic well made divergent that temporarily draws us away from the daily horrors in our nation.
Well worth the money and time
Haven’t seen it yet. Will go check it out this week. I like Tom Cruise’s Scifi movies.
Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Edge of Tomorrow and Oblivion all good.
He’s the head of a weird cult that seems to be L. Ron Hubbard’s version of Mormonism.
He also likes America and has no problem being patriotic and called out big pharma decades ago.
There’s a lot to like about him. Which is very strange.
He’s also, from stories, very nice and friendly to fans and staff.
Marking 40 years.
This movie is just the shadow of good things to come, the ‘tell’ in plain sight.
Wait until *The* Top Gun Maverick is released.
There will be no stopping that one.
God Bless America.
Can-DO!
All hollywood is going to do with that money is fund leftist democrat politcians who will further erode our God given rights.
Please stop supporting hollywood.
Do you even know what Scientology or what Mormonism is ?
$1.3 billion?
They could have just bought a lottery ticket...
I saw it yesterday. Great film.
Yes. Mormons believe that space alien Jesus and Lucifer are bffs and that space alien Jesus decided that dark skinned people are punished for not believing in space alien Jesus.
Scientologist believe that the Warlord Xenu threw his enemies in volcanos and we have many aliens occupying our brain. So you need to get hooked up to an e meter and get ‘clear’ so you can get rid of all the volcanic space aliens in your brain.
Happy?
All of this requires you to spend your entire life savings.
“He also likes America and has no problem being patriotic “
Mostly true, but I also remember Cruise’s “Born on the Fourth of July” which was a sort of hagiography of disabled Vietnam vet Ron Kovic. I don’t necessarily consider it unpatriotic to question the Vietnam War or the way it was conducted, but at the time Cruise’s movie was made and came out Kovic was a strident leftist, acting as an apologist for Ortega’s commie regime in Nicaragua etc. At the time, I and many others took “Born on the Fourth of July” as Cruise’s sort of apology to the Hollywood left for the original “Top Gun” which was seen as a paean to the Reagan-era, non-woke U.S. military.
It’s worth a view on big screen. It has everything. It’s a fun movie. 15 years ago I’d never see a Tom cruise movie….too weird then. But seems he’s matured. I think you should go see it.
Which cult is yours?
Inflation.
It’s simple why it is doing so well… fighter jets are cool and it’s not full of alternative agenda “woke”items.
Fair enough. I think he took that role so he could get his bonafides as a “serious actor”. But you are correct.
If the “he” you are referring to is Cruise, he is not the head a scientology. That distinction goes to a man named David Miscavige.
To your point about a weird culture I tend to agree.
Anyone who hasn’t seen Leah Remini’s documentary “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath” needs to....scientology is worse than I thought.
Will do. Been meaning to but have been distracted by other things in my life
