After stopping us from accessing our bank money, if any, the next step is to come after the stash in the home cookie jar. As FDR did, print a new bill and allow a few months to turn in the old ones for the new ones before the old ones are deemed worthless. In Venezuela, you were only allowed to trade in a certain amount for payment in kind. After 200k or so, you only got 10c on the dollar for trade ins.
Next, go after the hoarded gold by making it illegal to own more than one ounce, ala FDR again.
If the Nazis caught a family hoarding, they were shot in the street and neighbors were paraded by the bodies.
Trouble is, the American Nazis are doing it arse backwards as the Germans took the guns away first.

An old Jewish lady once told me she and her husband fled Germany with gemstones sewn into their clothing...

Is it going to come to such things here?

I used to consider Israel as a possible place to flee if the US went completely bonkers... looks like that is a non-starter :-/

India did this not that long ago. Introduced a new note with only (I think) a couple of weeks to redeem the old notes before they became worthless. Redeeming over a certain amount required one to declare the source of the money. The government’s justification was breaking the underground economy.

In the U.S. cash transactions over $10,000 must be reported to the government carrying large amounts of cash risk it seizure and making transaction of less than $10,000 can be a crime if the government thinks you are trying to evade the reporting—it’s called ‘structuring’

The government thinks that your money is very much its business.
