Apparently not anymore. This is happening on Zoom calls all across the country, I’m told by my kids. They hate it, but I think they oblige so as not to be scrutinized for not participating that way.

A while back I was on a group Teams call with HR.
One HR chick trying to be buddy/buddy asked if she can call me “Deaf”.
I told her on the call that she call me Mr Smith or Smith.
