Not sure how typical this is in Russia but here is a recent trip to a Russian supermarket just after the sanctions were put in place.

Russian supermarkets have really changed, for the better, since I was there (in Санкт-Петербург in 1998).

You can go on Google earth and “drive around” Russian cities. It’s how I travel cheaply. Russian cities are very CLEAN. They clearly have a lot of land so they have wide streets and sidewalks. You can see a lot of churches. The suburbs tend to have poorer and more run down houses, but it seems they still look safe
