Trump ginned up a LOT of support from Americans (not only Republicans) who had previously thought that no one in the political arena was willing to do anything useful. TRUMP got people to the polls. Wheeling out a Romney, McCain, Hogan etc. is the fastest way to depress the numbers again.

Until the the election of 2020, there was no serious talk of the thorough and widespread tainting of electoral votes in key states. But we did have electoral fraud. It was no secret that Philadelphia would pull more votes than registered voters. Referring to election fraud in NY, Chicago or New Orleans over the last 50 years was everything from a joke in a sitcom to commonplace banter in diner conversations, never raising an eyebrow from either side.

We have all heard the suggestion that JFK won the electoral vote because of cheating in Chicago, where precincts came in 100% Kennedy, and Texas, where LBJ was acknowledged by both sides to not be above making things happen without to much in the ways of moral scruples to slow him down. You mention this in the presence of lefties, and they generally smirk. They NEVER pretend that Joe Kennedy and LBJ were above that sort of thing, or that these things didn't happen.

The problem is, we looked the other way, and cracked jokes about it ourselves, and now that approach has been taken nationwide.

If you want people to have faith in the system, the WRONG answer is "Shut Up", and that's all we have had for two years, including from some "conservative" Republicans. The answer is to make it harder to cheat, and to hold to account those who do.
