The Union Station closure surprises me. You would think security would be rather tight there.

There is a Bowserville in the grassy area around the Columbus statue in front of Union Station. The panhandlers like it because there is a high volume of metrorail commuters and train passengers, so it’s a target rich environment for them. The mayor’s refusal to order effective policing at Union Station is a long running issue.
You’d think The Amtrak Police would put a stop to this nonsense.
I noticed the same thing. I take that as an indication of how bad things are.
