Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko might be bracing for a revolt from his own military officers after they recently expressed their opposition to the Russian war in Ukraine.
Senior officers from the fifth brigade of the Special Forces warned in an open letter to Lukashenko, who is a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, against sending troops to fight in Ukraine, describing that such decision is "pure suicide," the Express reported Saturday.
"By entering the war against Ukraine, Belarus will be evicted from the community of civilized states and will be an international outcast for many years to come," the military officers wrote.

"Russia's occupation of the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine, which is [a] friend of our state, and its attempt to pull Belarus into a completely unprovoked war against a sovereign state can only be seen as the destruction of the sovereignty of Belarus."
They continued: "At the present moment officers from the fifth brigade of the Special Forces have observed the most serious infringement of Clause One of the Belarus Constitution by Russia's highest political leadership. According to this Clause, the Belarus Republic maintains supremacy and full authority on its own territory. It also enjoys independence over its internal and foreign politics."

Lukashenko is a nasty piece of work, but he’s not dumb. So far he’s managed to resist putin’s pressure to join his war of aggression on Ukraine.
Some of the cheerleaders for Putin on here don’t recognize all the factors at play in a war. Russia has made gains with a brutal scorched earth artillery strategy.
But “making gains” against Ukraine after 5 months is a vast under performance.
Russia might obliterate Ukraine. Then again Russia might need a way out of this mess.
Threatening to take back Alaska is not a sign of strength.
End game isn’t far away, I hope. ‘bye ‘bye Putin.
Lukashenko is to Putin what a ditch digger is to the man that signs his check. Only in the Putin/Lukashenko relationship, Putin has a gun to his employee’s head.
These Belarus Special Forces officers are brave guys......for sure.
Lukashenko is Putin’s Mussolini.
Belarus is going to default on their sovereign debt next week.
What is the long term prognosis for strong man leader when
their military feels free to criticize them?
He has a Ukrainian sir-name, or perhaps Belarus sir-names are identical to Ukrainian, which is all the more reason why he should not make war on his fellow Slavs. He would also do well to remember the wisdom of rats, who leave a sinking ship. He could be Putin’s Franco.
Russia already has defaulted on some debts, due to sanction restrictions, but they’ve got the money in the bank.
Laugh now, mucus.
Cry more, krokodil
Gee. What a shame./s
