Russia-backed separatists say they have "completely" encircled the key city of Lysychansk in the eastern Luhansk region.
"Today the Luhansk popular militia and Russian forces occupied the last strategic heights, which allows us to confirm that Lysychansk is completely encircled," Andrei Marotchko, a spokesman for the separatist forces, told the TASS news agency.
Ukraine's army denied the claims, saying that fighting is still raging in the city.

Once Luhansk is under Russian control, then Russia will have full control of 3 of Ukraine's 25 oblasts/regions -- Crimea, Luhansk and Kherson.
After Luhansk falls, then Russia will be moving onwards to the Donetsk oblast (the other of the 2 oblasts that make up the Donbass).
Kherson will apparently hold a referendum on becoming part of Russia, and I think the two Donbass oblasts may do the same when/if Russia gets/maintains control of them during the current fighting.
Here is the information on the upcoming Kherson oblast referendum to join Russia:

I wouldn’t be surprised because the cauldron methodical strategy is what they have been doing the whole time.
Yep. Russia likes the “cauldron” and “artillery” methods of warfare. They are very, very good at them, too.
The USA seems to prefer air superiority and bombing people from the skies. Russia seems to like to shell people into submission with artillery, then go in and mop them up.
Still a long way to go in this conflict, but Russia has made some adjustments from the shaky early days, I think. They have a plan and are sticking with it.

Amazing! Both are saying the truth.
Lysychansk is indeed surrounded, but the fighting is still raging — with the surrounded Ukes, apparently in many small pockets.
Sadly, if anyone is Baghdad Bob it would be Zelensky and his NATO PR flaks.
The war is where it is. Pretending things are falling apart for Russia is like repeating “the walls are closing in on Trump”.
It feels good, I guess, but it hasn’t been reality for years.
But you never know. Maybe they’ll get Bad Orange Man one of these days. And maybe the Ghost Of Kiev will come and eliminate the entire Russian force by himself.
It would be interesting to do some long-term studies about the kind of artillery shelling that the Russians favor.
I still remember the retaliation missile strikes on our Iraq base after we rubbed out Salami from Iran. There were a number of trauma injuries, if I recall correctly.
The Goats of Kiev are on the attack! On to Moscow with the High-Heeled Puppet-Clown and Ukie Tank Girl!
Sounds about right.
I’ve seen supposed pictures of Russian forces in the city itself. They do seem to be there.
Recall, there was “still fighting going on” in Mariupol long after Russia had the area under control.
I think Kiev understands the psychological blow to morale it will be when Lysychansk/Luhansk falls. Again similar to Mariupol. So my guess is they are putting off that “loss” as long as they can, in terms of admitting to the populace the reality on the ground.
hahaha. Yep!
Yeah. They definitely know what they’re doing when it comes to artillery. That’s for sure.
Interesting update from a very pro-Ukranian German BILD “Blue Check” reporter.

It’s over.
Most Ukrainian troops withdrew from #Lysyschansk and six other towns overnight, allowing Russian invasion forces to take over the entire area.
Some forces remained to secure the withdrawal, so we will see new POWs soon.
Let’s hope it was worth it.

The one hundred twenty nineth (129) day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to a russian military invasion continues.
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, according to available
information, the terms of mobilization training in the Armed Forces of the republic of belarus have been extended until July 9 of this year (the previous terms were June 22 - July 1, 2022). As part of the above-mentioned measures, summonses are being served through the military commissariats of the Gomel region. In addition, doctors have been notified of a ban on travelling outside the country.
In the Siversky direction, in order to cover the russian-Ukrainian border in the Bryansk and Kursk regions, the enemy continues to hold up to three battalion tactical groups from the 1st Tank Army, the 20th Combined Arms Army of the Western Military District and units of airborne troops. The aggressor carried out artillery fire damage to the positions of the Defense Forces in the border areas of Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts.
Good information. Thanks Cathi.
What I’ve heard is that many of the Ukraine forces are retreating to the Bakhmut region of the Donetsk oblast. Apparently there are good fortifications there.
The Ukraine forces in Lysychansk know they are caught in a cauldron (mostly surrounded). Better to fight with some space behind you rather than be fully surrounded or be tempting it.
The Russians are definitely in the very center of the city and there is no fighting there, here is a video
so the LNR claim of full control of Lysychansk is close to accurate. Not so about the claim about an hour ago about full liberation of LNR — there is one village (Belogorodka) still under the Kiev control. Another day.
As for the Uke propaganda...we’ll know how would spin the events before long, but likely as a strategic regrouping of forces on the way toward Moscow. I suspect that their biggest problem is not surrendering another city but the mounting losses in manpower.
Well... toward Seversk and Artemovsk now.
Videos confirm there is intense fire fights in the forest outside the city, infantry on infantry small arms and light mortars.
At a stalemate but Ukraine is withdrawaling

Good info, thanks.
“a strategic regrouping of forces on the way toward Moscow”.
lol. probably about right, on the spin.
What I’ve heard is that many of the Ukraine forces are retreating to the Bakhmut region of the Donetsk oblast. Apparently there are good fortifications there.
Actually, no. This would be a new defense line for the Ukes and they will have to improvise with fortifications. I don’t think there are good permanent fortifications in Slyavyansk which is the “main dish” now.
Good fortifications, build over 8 years, are in Avdeevka (next to Donetsk City) — multiple Russian attempts to breach them so far failed.
Thanks for the info.
It makes sense. Cauldron is closing. If surrounded, that’s pretty much the end. No reason to let that happen if you can prevent it.
