And Ukraine wants to join the EU. They will have to take in their share of these Muslims, so the women might as well get used to it.
The Soviet Union was our ally in WW2. They took Berlin. Russia had the highest number of casualties in WW2.
And...? The Soviet Union also inflicted horrendous casualties on civilians during peace time, entirely analogous to the Holocaust, and allied itself with Hitler up until the latter attacked them. Then suddenly they came crawling to the United States and Britain, which wisely opted to welcome them in, because they wanted to win a war against an evil, power-hungry sociopath, so they declined to virtue signal, and accepted the Soviets’ considerable manpower, and supplied them with weapons. After they took East Berlin, they then encircled all of Berlin and tried to prevent all food and other vital provisions and services from getting in, in a word treating the Berliners like uppity Ukrainians for no other reason than revenge. Truman put a stop to that with the Berlin Airlift, and then the Soviets built a wall around the portion of Berlin that they still occupied, which remained in place until 1991. Nobody was allowed to cross over from East Berlin to West Berlin. Those that tried were usually shot.
WW 2 was not a simple conflict. It requires some serious study. I’m no expert, but even I can’t believe you made this simplistic statement. Learn the facts.
“A lot of hay gets made with that, but all it did was return the borders of Germany and Russia to what they had been 20 years earlier after WWI.”
Actually, there was no Poland prior to WW I, and effectively there was none during the Nazi/Soviet occupation, or the Nazi occupation after the Nazi invasion of Russia. And the object of invading Poland was to eradicate the post WW I border, chiefly the return of Danzig/nee Gdensk to Germany, and the Soviets to take everything East of the Bug River.
I do know the facts. My 3 statements were correct.
Everything you said about USSR is true, but that is additional information, not relevant to the question. You don’t need to get so emotional.
This is what you get when you want to be part of EU.
“Emotional”? I’m appalled at your ignorance of the facts.
It’s “additional information” that he was allied with Hitler, that they carved up Poland together, and that only when Hitler turned on him he came crawling to Churchill and FDR?
It’s “additional information” that when the Soviets “took Berlin,” they proceeded to systematically starve the Berliners? That Stalin’s “ally,” Harry Truman had to put a stop to it?
Or how about the fact that throughout Eastern Europe, the Soviets had promised to hold democratic elections, pursuant to the alliance, and instead Stalin simply sat on the countries he occupied and refused to budge.
This is not the heroic image of the USSR in war-time that you wish to paint. In fact, Eastern Europe is still suffering because of the Soviet abuses they endured.
This is highly material to the nature of this “alliance”. It wasn’t just dancing the Mazorka when Berlin fell.
The massive casualties the Russians suffered were in large part because of Stalin’s failure to plan for Hitler’s duplicity, because he honestly believed they were padrugi, and partly because the military went through the purge of 1937, and those left alive didn’t have the sense or the testicular fortitude to tell Stalin that his “padrug” Adolf was a snake and to prepare for the eventuality of his back-stab. He actually allowed Wehrmacht officers to tour his troops’ positions in Poland the day before the invasion. I used to know a fine old gentleman who grew up in a Polish shtetl, who escaped with his life by jumping on a horse and fleeing at a gallop. He was 13 at the time. But I’m just getting emotional. He also ordered the liquidation of all Jewish Partisans who identified as such. I suppose these are now classified as “Soviet casualties during the war.” Oops. Emotional again. Stalin sucked as an “ally”. He was every bit as bad as his “padrug” Adolf.
Is that like an outhouse?
It's cute the way foreigners have names for "outhouse".
STFU.
I know all that, and I’m “appalled” at your emotional posts. Just because I didn’t write a book about the evils of USSR does not mean I’m ignorant.
Chill!
Then do not worry about the “R”.
They eagerly sold Hitler all the steel he wanted, and were totally into the whole “master race” thing. Later, when Hitler managed to...heh... “Jew down” Chamberlain into giving up the Sudetenland, and then used a fake incident to take over the rest of Czechoslovakia, he no longer needed Swedish steel. But it’s the thought that counts. They didn’t need to be a belligerent to be allies. Neither was Hungary belligerent, nor Slovakia. The belligerent allies of the Axis were pretty much liabilities. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor instead invading India, as they should have and could have, bringing America into the war instead of taking England out of it. Italy beat up on Ethiopia! Shvartzes with spears! As for Stalin, on the one hand he couldn’t handle Finland worth a damn, but when Hitler attacked, after suffering huge setbacks due to failing to prepare and decimating his officer corps for political reasons in 1937, he finally did push back like a mother-f@#$er, again playing politics inappropriately with the Partisans, telling them to take out the Jooos!, but also benefiting from Hitler’s delusions that he was a military genius and constantly overruling his very capable generals.
“...instead OF invading India...
Yes, I see that about their early partnership...I was mainly considering when we entered the war...Sorry, my fault...
Interestingly, the Allied Forces upon entering Germany were impressed that the Germans actually had flushing toilets every other country they passed through were still using outhouses or emptying thundermugs down at the “night soil” collection stations.
That was in the major cities. In rural Germany they used outhouses too.
