I had this conversation once (why “Juneteenth”) and they had some explanation about not putting it in January, where it should have gone due to something with the Teachers Unions, having too many holidays in the month, or something like that.
I find “Juneteenth” to be an utterly embarrassing national holiday.
I thought it was just fine in Texas, where it was appropriate and enjoyed as a parochial kind of holiday, meaningful in Texas. I was all on board for that, and power to Texas.
But a national holiday?
Explaining to a non-American what “Juneteenth” is, and why it is named “Juneteenth”...
Because it is.
