The State Duma has registered a bill repealing the September 6, 1991 resolution recognizing Lithuania's independence.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the Russian media.
The bill was registered by Yevhen Fedorov, a deputy from the United Russia party. He believes that the resolution of the USSR State Council is illegal because it was adopted by an unconstitutional body and in violation of a number of articles of the constitution.
In addition, the bill violates the law "On the Procedure for Resolving Issues Related to the Withdrawal of the Union Republic from the USSR", as Lithuania did not hold a referendum on leaving the USSR and did not set a transition period to consider all disputes.

"Thus, given that according to Article 67.1 of the Russian Constitution," the Russian Federation is the legal successor of the USSR on its territory… ", the resolution of the USSR State Council № GS-1 is subject to repeal," the bill said.
It will be recalled that Lithuania left the USSR in 1991. Soviet troops tried to suppress the mass movement for independence. Source: https://censor.net/en/n3346724
That would mean that the U.S.S.R. still exists - and consists only of Lithuania (because it never really officially exited the U.S.S.R., and since Russia did exit the U.S.S.R.).
Funny!
Regards,
Who is going to blame them?
Um... Russia to Lithuania (and NATO):
Nice try. Here’s our response.
Love,
The country formerly known as the U.S.S.R.
Don’t tell me the Ruskies are setting up another invasion. The current one ain’t going well.
I don’t think this just ‘another invasion’.
Putting aside all the corruption between American politicians and Ukraine, Lithuania is a whole lot more attached to the west. This would be for all the marbles.
What was that sarcastic put-down by Obama of Romney, to the effect that the 1980’s were calling to ask for their foreign policy back? It looks like spectacular displays of weakness and incompetence by the current American president have encouraged those 1980’s to do just that. And get away with it.
Let’s hear it for isolationism and weakness!!
Lithuania became independent on 3-11-1990.
The Russia Federation adopted its current Constitution on 12-12-1993, and it became effective on 12-25-1993.
Article 65, Section 1 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation defines what the RF consists of, and lists the components:
“1. The Russian Federation shall be composed of the following constituent entities of the Russian Federation:
Republic of Adygeya (Adygeya), Republic of Altai, Republic of Bashkortostan, Republic of Buryatia, Republic of Crimea, Republic of Daghestan, Republic of Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, Republic of Kalmykia, Karachayevo-Cherkessian Republic, Republic of Karelia, Komi Republic, Republic of Marij El, Republic of Mordovia, Republic of Sakha(Yakutia), Republic of North Osetia - Alania, Republic of Tatarstan (Tatarstan), Republic of Tuva, Udmurtian Republic, Republic of Khakasia, Chechen Republic, Chuvashi Republic - Chuvashia;
Altai kray, Krasnodar kray, Krasnoyarsk kray, Perm kray, Primorie kray, Stavropol kray, Khabarovsk kray;
Amur oblast, Arkhangelsk oblast, Astrakhan oblast, Belgorod oblast, Bryansk oblast, Vladimir oblast, Volgograd oblast, Vologda oblast, Voronezh oblast, Ivanovo oblast, Irkutsk oblast, Kaliningrad oblast, Kaluga oblast, Kamchatka oblast, Kemerovo oblast, Kirov oblast, Kostroma oblast, Kurgan oblast, Kursk oblast, Leningrad oblast, Lipets oblast, Magadan oblast, Moscow oblast, Murmansk oblast, Nizhni Novgorod oblast, Novgorod oblast, Novosibirsk oblast, Omsk oblast, Orenburg oblast, Oryol oblast, Penza oblast, Pskov oblast, Rostov oblast, Ryazan oblast, Samara oblast, Saratov oblast, Sakhalin oblast, Sverdlovsk oblast, Smolensk oblast, Tambov oblast, Tver oblast, Tomsk oblast, Tula oblast, Tyumen oblast, Ulyanovsk oblast, Chelyabinsk oblast, Chita oblast, Yaroslavl oblast;
Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sevastopol - cities of federal significance;
the Jewish autonomous oblast;
Nenets autonomous okrug, Khanty-Mansijsk autonomous okrug - Yugra, Chukotka autonomous okrug, Yamalo-Nenets autonomous okrug.”
Note the absence of “Lithuania” from the list. Russian Duma has zero Constitutional authority to assert anything about Lithuania or Lithuania’s prior departure from the USSR.
Interestingly, Republic of Crimea IS listed.
That’s a good point and hilarious!
