Trust me, the only thing that can cure San Francisco’s mental illness is a 9.8 earth quake with the epicenter under city hall.
When all the freaks, queers, weirdoes, hippies, druggies, lesbos, progs, libs, dems, and other assorted mentally ill are all killed by the falling masonry, fires and tsunami some body can start over.
I am a native of San Francisco and in my opinion the only cure for that disease is about 4 fifty megaton thermonuclear weapons detonated at about 1000 meters!
Last time I flew into SFO was in 1972, got spit on by a dirty hippie.
He was unconscious when the SFPD finally pulled me off him.
They threw me into their squad car and delivered me to Marine Barracks Treasure Island, the two cops didn’t say anything to the receiving officer, just whispered to me to stay out of trouble.

SF and Oakland looked pretty good back in ‘61 when my folks and I sailed in.
Our kid moved from Silicon Valley to Central Texas six years ago partly for this reason. Equivalent rental/lease costs at the time of the move were more than double in Silicon Valley.
Managed to save up to purchase their first home late last year. The equivalent house (~2,600 sq ft) *and* neighborhood in Silicon Valley would cost at least four times as much. Property taxes suck in Texas, but that house in Silicon Valley would result in a property tax bill twice as much, at least at the start (Prop 13 helps, while it lasts). But a two income couple not needing to pay CA state income taxes more than helps offset the property taxes in TX.
