“Jerry Bruckheimer And Joseph Kosinski Talk Top Gun: Maverick’s Incredible Plane Hangar Scene And How It Impacted Real-Life Espionage”
Then there was Penny Benjamin. I have probably seen the original a dozen times if you piece them together (almost never sat through the whole thing) and I kept asking myself who she was and why she was so important.
Val Kilmer’s character was supposed to appear ill and frail, but I never would have expect his performance to be. For example, in Tombstone his character had Tuberculosis, and his character pretty much stole the show.
———-
Penny Benjamin was the Generals daughter mentioned in the first Top Gun. Maverick got in some sort of trouble with the general over it
Val Kilmers performance was perfect considering he really DOES have throat cancer, and is in real life, a very sick and frail man.
My wife and I just saw it....great movie!!!!
I’m just here for Jennifer.
I also had to overcome what I knew about the first Top Gun. Some years ago, an acquaintance of mine who was Navy enlisted (chief? Don't recall) and who was assigned to assist (uncredited) in the first film production had some eye-opening observations about Mister Cruise.
Paraphrasing, but quite close...
Cruise was a childish, demanding, accusative, insulting, selfish, and arrogant jerk...to everyone, including all military support.
Even with that inside knowledge, I still enjoyed the sequel, and I recommend it to all who enjoy things aviation and military.
Yes, it’s a great movie. But, in the future, there won’t be any Top Gun pilots. Future warplanes will be unmanned drones, piloted by an airman in a remote bunker.
Isn’t it amazing that a good movie (I loved it!) that simply isn’t woke, and makes you feel good; is doing so well?
It’s almost like peopl eare sick to death of the Hollywood bilge, modern American culture, and want something decent to feel good about.
I see people say this a lot and yet when I watched it, the "wokeness" was quite blatant.
10 top best pilots in the Navy and we get two women, one of which is a Hispanic lesbian "Mary Sue", two black guys and one or more Asians.
This is a "diversity" cast, and I find it highly unlikely that this is how a group picked solely on merit would come out, given that white guys probably make up 80% of the Navy's aviation force.
Of course the Hispanic Lesbian is one of the people chosen for the Mission (GIRRRRLLLL POWWERRR!!!!)and the other one is one of the black guys.
The black guy might have been plausible a few years ago, but now they are deliberately pushing them forward into the limelight because they want to send a "Black Lives Matter" message to everyone. We are seeing this in commercials, tv shows and movies now, and it is "woke" stuff.
The thing was quite "woke."
So I guess having a Hispanic Lesbian, another girl, two black guys an Asian just makes sense as being among the 10 best pilots in the Navy?
What percentage of naval aviators do these groups represent? Do we really have 20% women and 20% black men in our Navy aviation fighter aircraft?
Looked like Hollywood wokism to me.
And of *COURSE* the bad-@$$ Hispanic Lesbian gets picked for the Mission.

Quote:
“Val Kilmer’s Iceman returns, and the 62-year-old actor, who has been recovering from his battle with throat cancer, was heavily involved in how his iconic character returned, too.”

Makes a lot of sense in retrospect. I feel bad for the criticism now
Not a problem. Most of us didn’t know he has throat cancer.
How many times has Israel already done a similar mission?
I know, they can’t tell us.
Imagine 633 Squadron filmed as realistic as Tip Top Gun (oh wait! I should copyright that title). Far deadlier mission to more participents
True- but it looks so minor compared to most Hollywood films...
Ok, you’re right on this...
I suppose so.
I didn't used to analyze movies for political spin or bias. I used to just watch them. Some years back I started noticing that they were putting politics into movies and I started paying attention.
Now I can't turn it off and go back to just enjoying movies. Every time I watch one I have my radar out looking for political bias or messaging.
Since I developed this habit, i've noticed that old movies that I watched when I was a kid often have political bias in them too.
It has certainly made movies harder to enjoy. For me anyway.
The mission portrayed in the movie would have actually been accomplished by missiles. Jamming GPS won't stop us from putting steel on target. We used other guidance systems before GPS came along.
Next generation robot fighters have so many advantages over humans that it makes no sense to keep fielding human pilots.
Speaking of that, our aircraft carriers are obsolete just like the flagship battleship a century ago.
If we go to a war with a nation that is technologically advanced like Ukraine, they will use missiles and drones to sink our aircraft carriers.
M I 1, 2, and 4 were too. Haven’t seen 3 yet. Seniors in hearing aids, night blind don’t do movie theaters.
>> And of *COURSE* the bad-@$$ Hispanic Lesbian gets picked for the Mission.
spoiler
It’s a sop and a tasty morsel to suck money from conservatives and use for other woke projects.
