California Republicans send latest sacrifice to Gavin Newsom
San Francisco Chronicle / SFGate.com ^ | June 7, 2022 | Alec Regimbal , SFGATE

After clearing California's primary election alongside Gov. Gavin Newsom, state Sen. Brian Dahle is now the latest Republican being sent to the figurative sacrificial alter — a statewide general election contest in deep-blue California against a Democratic incumbent.

Unofficial primary results show that Newsom and Dahle earned more votes than any of the other 24 candidates for governor in Tuesday’s election, which means they’ll compete head-to-head in November. As of 9 p.m. Tuesday night, Newsom had 61% of the vote, while Dahle had 15%.

Tuesday’s results mean Newsom is all-but-assured to win re-election in November. It's true that 2022 is expected to be a watershed year for Republicans, but this is still California — a liberal stronghold where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1. Besides, there's precedent for California Democrats prevailing in statewide races even while national political winds favor Republicans.

In 2010, Democratic candidate Jerry Brown more than survived that year’s national “red wave," defeating Republican Meg Whitman by nearly 13 percentage points. California has only become more blue in the 12 years since then.

The only thing that seems like it could put Newsom’s re-election chances in danger would be a scandal (or scandals) in the coming months. And we’re not talking about a French-Laundry-type scandal — we’re talking about an earth-shattering, that-man-should-never-hold-public-office-again-in-his-life-type scandal. That's how safe Newsom is against a Republican.

“So I guess you also believe Biden won 2020 with over 90 million votes right?”

No, not right. Poster mark17 said nothing of the sort. Not at all.

This is a “win” in a way. The Democrats rigged the primaries so that the top two only are on the November ballot. Californian usually only get a choice of Democrat A or Democrat B.

Amazing to think CA was once the state that twice elected Ronald Reagan as governor. His kind will never be elected there again.

CA repubs should focus on winning every elected seat in every precinct that does not touch the ocean.

Oh really? So I guess you also believe Biden won 2020 with over 90 million votes right?

Hmmm, let me see. I read my post 5 times. No where did I see anything, that even remotely came within 4 light years of saying that. The election was stolen by Biden, and all the other woke chumps. I think it’s possible you may not know what woke means. It’s the evil that democrats do. The links you posted, about Larry Elder, and others, is the kind of evil, that is symptomatic of being woke. Perhaps we are on the same side. I don’t know, but I hate wokeness, with a purple passion. To be woke, is to be a libtard democrat. No one ever accused me of being a woke democrat.
I lived in California, the last 4 years of my Air Force career, and 25 more after that. I left, mostly because too many people are woke. Fortunately, not everyone in California is woke. Millions are not, but more millions are. I certainly was not. Neither is my California born son, who is now a commissioned Air Force Officer. I was a Master Sgt, he is a 1st Lieutenant.

You are probably right, about most of those California wokesters are not from California. I was not either. When I was there, it seemed like the woke areas (democrats) were mostly on the water, like SFO, LAX, Sacramento, San Jose, Marin County, Santa Cruz. Since I was up north, I am not sure, but I suspect San Diego, up along the coast, Beverly Hills, Santa Barbara, Malibu, and other areas are rat 🐀 strong holds, but places like Auburn, Placerville, Calaveras County, Susanville, Crescent City, Tuolumne, Tulare, Mendocino counties, are not like those chumps in the Rat 🐀 areas.
We used to have fun, asking people where they were from. Many were not from California at all. I wasn’t either. I was not Californian by birth, but by choice.

Plus a few weeks ago the pro-abortion rally in Los Angeles, a city of millions, had a total of less than a 100 people.

By the way, glad to hear that. I don’t know for sure, but maybe there is a glimmer of hope for California. I hope so, but I don’t ever plan on going back. Too danged expensive there.

I guess a large majority of Californians like living with lockdowns, unhindered illegal immigration, and $10/gallon gas.

Please stay out of the other 49.
