Nevada just announced a major divestment from firearms manufacturers.
The divestment marks the end of an $89 million investment portfolio managed by the treasurer’s office. Zachary Conine, Nevada’s Treasurer announced that this is his response to the hellish attacks in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York.
“Today, I directed our team to divest the State of Nevada from any investment in a business that profits from the sale or manufacture of assault-style weapons. No one policy or law will fix this crisis, but we all must do something.”
Nevada Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action come out in support. Both organizations are long-time supporters of gun control. Liz Becker, a volunteer with Nevada’s Moms Demand Action had this to say.
“There’s no reason why our taxpayer dollars should end up in the pockets of assault weapon manufacturers, and we’re grateful that Nevada will no longer be investing in these companies that profit off of flooding our streets with deadly, high-powered rifles. As gun violence continues to devastate communities in Nevada and across the country, this is a bold step in promoting gun safety.”
The biggest problem with all of this is that none of it will not save any of these children. Not one. Buffalo Shooter Peyton Gendron’s manifesto told us why he chose New York. He knew that tighter gun laws would make his targets softer. If Democrats tighten them further, they only clear an even easier path for the next nauseating nightmare.
Let’s not forget that in Uvalde, Texas, when a psychopathic maniac killed 21 innocent fourth-graders, police showed up on the scene but only made the problem worse. Cowardly officers waited outside while the shooter had a field day. They even handcuffed and pepper-sprayed parents who tried to enter the school to get their children out or confront the menacing scoundrel.
Imagine how many children could have been saved if those teachers were armed. That’s the direction we need to be moving. Not divesting from firearm manufacturers, but arming the good guys. If every good man and woman is armed, an evil man with a gun goes from terrifying, to terrified. And evil lives in fear, the good live in peace.
Intended for the too many out of state “Experts” on Nevada.
In reality the Brothels are a dying industry, Mining is being suppressed by endless enviro-wacko suits, Dope and Hemp industries are not making the state nearly the money promised, Gaming is way down due to inflation.
So of course we will see huge new spending at the next session of the legislature.
Only hope is a Republican wave, but even that may not do much as the real conservatives are being term-limited out.
Those manufacturers should refuse all sales to law enforcement in Nevada.
Nevada has been violating it’s fiduciary responsibility for years.
When the Covid UNEMPLOYMENT hit-—the claims were NOT being paid out.
“Not enough employees’.....
“Not a strong enough computer system to handle the load”....
I know one man who faithfully filed for his unemployment weekly-—took over an hour most weeks. He has NEVER received a penny—altho the state did admit over a year ago that they owed him OVER $20,000.
IMO, there were NO funds in the state UNEMPLOYMENT accounts. They NEVER thought Covid or similar would hit-—and they were caught with empty vaults.
Yeah, let’s punish people who had absolutely nothing to do with these murders. Meanwhile, we will turn murderers and other criminals loose.
Which means Nevada has been de-masculated ... you know, for "safety reasons".
I bought a handgun in an Academy & no background check was done. Okay, I was 71, but that didn’t mean I didn’t have a record. (I don’t!)
I do think a background check would help. And I strongly support releasing the mental health status of troubled teens once they come of age to purchase a gun. I know this doesn’t preclude a stupid parent from purchasing them one, but most of these “kids” were able to purchase one or many of them, themselves. In this day & age, we have to deal with the mental state of the person. A background check might come to be of some help.
But the point many of us continue to make is that regardless of the number of safeguards that are put into place, criminals will always have access, the government has hoarded guns & ammunition, and has been involved in getting firearms into the hands of criminals in various underhanded means.
The last point is this: we live in a society that rejected God and His commandments decades ago. Had we just rejected God, and abortion never been ruled the law of the land, we might still be in a better place, but once we started killing the most vulnerable of the population and made it a “right”, we quickly went down he slippery slope to chaos. No life is of value, no one’s property belongs to him. Where Soros has put DAs in place to let criminals out and deny the public justice, the killing fields are ripe. We are all victims now, but there’ll be no justice.
Some insiders and relatives made a killing from the forced sale of those investments.
Again, what could possibly go wrong!
back in the early 70’s I was in reno visiting family, had a uncle who lived in sparks, he took me to the mustang ranch, but i didnt have the $$$ so we didn’t go in :-(
