Secure the damn school. The kid got in because a teacher had propped open a door.

Why not also put a combat-experienced cop in every school — with a pistol, a bullet proof vest, and access to a safe with some real firepower?

Why a safe??? You’re from a liberal State, aren’t you? You know, one of those States where they say lock up the guns at all times.

Yes, the back door was propped open. My guess is that the teacher was going back and forth to her car packing up stuff to take home (the other teacher was with the kids.

It’s important to remember that the Sandy Hook killer shot his way into the school even though the doors were locked and you had to be ‘buzzed in’.

Unless the armed, trained cop happened to be where the Uvalde entered the building, it would have likely made no difference to the outcome if I understand the timeline correctly. The shooter got into the building, went to the room, unlocked—why? and locked the door behind him. The locked classroom door apparently managed to keep several—how many? LEO forces out, while the killer dispatched his victims.
